Kruijswijk is quite the Gesink fan, so he'll gladly sacrifice himself if need be. He often trains with Robert, and has said multiple times that Gesink is simply a level above him. Personally I don't know if that's the case in the third week of a GT, because that's where Kruijswijk's strength lies.

Interesting discussion though, in a thread about a race where none of the three Rabo boys race ;)

I thought it was maybe because there's been three DNFs so far, i.e. the riders that would start 12.01, .02 and .03, but they don't want to bump everyone up and disrupt the TV timings? Albeit only by a few minutes but I think we'd all rather see more of the race (ie finishing later).

Durbridge is the first interesting guy to start, at 12:24. He could once again benefit from changing weather conditions as the wind is blowing quite a lot today. His inevitable lead should hold for quite some time.

Sammy Sanchez is 6th off. Be interesting to see if he is recovered enough to get a decent time or whether he just rolls around.

I don't think Durbridge can win a long ITT like this one against this competition unless the weather has a freak-like turnaround.

Look at AtoC he was only 6th in the longer ITT there

But in Cali he didn't save energy. Here he's arrived in the bus, the last few stages.

Yup, spent most of this year trying and failing to get in the world's 2nd best 4km TTT lineup, so I doubt he's well conditioned for this length of effort at the moment.

and it was something like ~40°C in California which has influenced the results a bit, most cyclist aren't used to race at this temperatures

But with Grabsch and Rosseler starting approximately at the same time I don't think it's a certainty that Durbridge will lead for a long time as well

You would think over 50km is still much too long for a 21 year old though. Think he will struggle to top5.

Big tailwind for the first 5km so the first intermediate timings are likely to have a higher average speed than the 2nd and finish.
