At least it looks like that dig from Evans saved us from a Sky 1-2-3 (and the Clinic from exploding).

i've heard froomy will get his gift tomorrow

it will be some good stuff

hopefully rolland won't make again the mistake of going the breakaway, that was stupid,he could have won on morzine...

Great work by Quintana to get the stage. He looked so at ease on the climb and he descended well too.

Nice work by Cadel to attack on the descent ( if only he had an ally ). Sky went well to neutralise the stage up the climb ( especially Porte ) and Cadel did not look like he could have attacked anyways ( but he did not get dropped ). Nice to see JVDB, Zubeldia and Weening there.

I thought that out of those following the Sky train, VDB 2 looked by far the most comfortable.
A bit surprised that he didn't try a small attack to test the rest, but then again, it would have been of minimal benefit.

When he attacked last year at the Dauphinie it was basically the first time he had attacked. He is also not great at descending.

It looked like it was in the cards with the Lotto boys on the front at the foot and he was first temporarily...but at the speed EBH and Porte drove the climb there was not much to be gained, assuming he could have taken off in the first place. If Froome and/or Rodgers have to sacrifice themselves for Wiggo at some point during the Tour JVDB could podium. He's certainly got the best ITT/Climbing mix behind Evans and the Sky trio.

Having watched this stage now, (missed the weekend stages). I have to say. What's all the fuzz about? So Sky drops a few contenders clearly not in shape yet. Also look at the names who kept following. Weening, Kiryenka, Zubeldia??? Those 3 are gone in the TDF on a normal level....

Some "cycling fans" can't seem to function without some sort of drama, if it wasn't whining about the "Sky Train" it would be something else entirely. It's not about bike racing for some (clinic dwellers).

Yes and frankly we should all be happy to see a champ who takes every (stage) race he enters seriously and goes for the win. Who does that these days apart from Wiggo and Bertie and to a slightly lesser extent Evans?

Most of the "top guys" out there use stage races for "training" purposes to "peak" during GTs and are ridiculous almost everywhere else (Schlecket of course, but what about Menchov, Nibali, Kloden, etc...). If they didn't maybe the guys who take these races seriously would have more competition to deal with and we'd get a better show.

OK, Menchov, but he's been mediocre in GTs also. Kloeden won Pais Vasco and was second in Paris Nice last year and Nibali won Tirreno-Adriatico this year. These are poor examples of riders who do nothing outside the Tour.

Or if your referring to their performance in the Dauphinee: when you get this close to the Tour you're jutified in being below your best and not going too deep, so that you can still perform in the last week of the Tour.
