Right, that was the year AC won the Giro...so he had the Giro in his legs and iirc he crashed several times that year in the Tour. Not making excuses, just stating the facts.

It doesn't alter the fact that Contador hasn`t been able to show his rivals a clean pair of heels since his return to the sport. Purito and Valverde had his measure in the Vuelta and last year Froome had his measure in the tour.

I am as much a 'Berto fan as anyone, but the maestro has something to prove. Can he still ride away from a top class field. HE HAS NOT DONE SO IN LE TOUR FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

A wall with a gradient of 28.3% awaits the riders and Thomas Voeckler who has done a recon of the climb issued a warning in a recent interview, claiming that "riders who forget to mount a 27 will be in a world of pain."

Anyway if its wet then Spilak comes in to the reckoning, but surely if froome is even a little hit back by his crash Contador might come around him this time.
