Nah he was stronger on stage 1 and 2 (but not by much). I just think the lenght of the double climb and the percentages suited Berto better today

I actually thought the same-or perhaps he thought Porte was as sharp as last year when both could drop everyone and could bridge up to Contador... As many pointed out- The "injury" excuse has no leverage today- SKY had the men power all the way to the last 2k before Contador took off, so that was an indication that Froome wasn't feeling strong enough.... He reacted late and by the look of things he truly "miscalculated" the effort....

he needs to reprogram his power meter. Definitely his bike computer can't handle the salsa move by el pistolero, too many variable.. Once el pistolero dances away,... watch out.

Why didn't he follow AC with less than 2km left? Think the train will do it for you? Its worked before, yes but train works from the distance, it needs time to reel in the lost cargo. At 1.7km, you should shoot off yourself.

But he has beaten Bertie on so many occasions its hard not to say to yourself, he won't get far....wrong this time

In the past AC attacked earlier and Froome had more teammates and time to bring him back. This was different. It was obvious when he went that Froome didn't feel he had the legs to stay with him. He was hoping Porte could bury himself and keep AC close enough that a last ditch effort would get him back within 12 seconds, which at first appeared might happen but then Froome wound up cracking more from his effort than AC did from his. If that climb had been an extra 500m Froome would have bled another 10-15 secs, imo.

He did drop him, then dropped himself.

Froome couldn't put any time into him, when he was fit.
We can only speculate as to what extent, if any, the crash effected him.

This. Not here, anyway. We'll see what happens in a few weeks. Spot on about the crash. We'll never know. Could have affected him that tiny %, could have had no affect.

Thrilled about Talansky. The look on his face when he was trying to stay with Froome was priceless. Hoping for a top 5 from him at Le Tour.

In the increasingly smaller chase group, both Contador and Nibali made efforts to get away. But the descent was not difficult enough to make a difference and Sky calmly roped the two back in.

Nibali went first but it was useless, the road was a highway and Sky had about 5 guys. So it was very short lived.

It was not really a attack. Nibali was on the front for like 10 seconds, and did not push hard.

Awesome ride by AC. Win or lose tomorrow, the Sky train looks beatable. Froomey might be thinking twice about needing Wiggo now. AC didn't bring much of a team to this race.

It's the best Contador since 2011. In last 1700 meters he attacked in style and gained 20 seconds on Froome and almost 40 second on Nibali. No way he could have done it with his 2012 or 2013 form. His top gear is back. As for Froome his crash could have had some effect. He wanted his team to set a hard tempo and prevent attacks (Froome himself wasn't planning any move). I have an impression that both Froome and Contador are already at their peaks or very close to it. Froome could even kill his form in this Dauphine.

Froome had Porte with him until 1km to go. When Contador attacks that close to the finish on a steep gradient it doesn't matter how many riders are left in the train.

train isnt work againt any climber that is much stronger than others.

im a bit surprised about alberto not attacking earlier.he could gain 30 or 40 sec. looks like pace was quite high froome weakness could be read only via some slight moments like working at saddle always which ac read and went fora move
