How are we having this argument in this thread? God dammit people. Take it somewhere else.

On topic: I just noticed that the Dauphine has no Young Rider jersey this year. Has it always been that way? It's a shame for Geraint Thomas, because he will probably lose the points jersey in the high mountains but he might have been able to win an U25 jersey if one existed.

[edit] Bert Grabsch just climbed off the bike. I guess he doesn't want to over-work himself in these mountains, he has a hard July of chasing down breaks for Cav ahead of him.

for me contador will win today i imagine hes majorly ****ed off that menchov put nearly a minute into him yesterday in the tt so he will either stalk him al'la evans last year or thrash him
or who knows he may not have the legs but i guarantee his eyes will be on menchov today and maybe samuel sanchez
i think hes clever in that he knows he can beat riders in the tour at the dauphine with psycology as he did with evans admittedly other factors but it all helps

Break of the day would seem to be settled, Stephan Denifl (Cervélo) and Danny Pate (Garmin-Transitions). They have 3 minutes after 30km.

Two guys is probably not enough to stay away on such a long stage, but who knows. If they reach the final climb together I would expect Pate to out-climb Denifl, although a quick glance at CQrankings would seem to suggest that he is no slouch going uphill.

You do know this race includes mountains, right?

Yeah, but G has been climbing better and better. I'm not expecting wonders from him, but he does seem to be on good form right now. I can't quite be bothered to look up birthdays for everyone and find out who he would be competing with.

[fake edit] Actually I just checked and Tejay is only 21, so Geraint would have no shot at an U25 jersey here anyway.

God, I hate this time of year. We have a number of Lance fanboys coming in, childish bickering in one thread, we have ACF still crying because Evans was too busy sulking at nobody doing his work for him on Ventoux last year here, and turning everything into a Clinic thread because he's upset that Valverde might just be a better rider than his hero (look at the palmarès and CAS saying that there is no evidence of any results being ill-gotten, budski).*

*as a side note, I've been told off for unnecessarily Clinicizing things, so if ACF hasn't received at least one warning for that I'm crying foul as loud as ACF cries when Evans loses to a Spaniard.

I think he could still hold onto green. I dont know what the scoring system is, last year there were less points on offer on mountain stages but I dont know if the aso have messed around with that.

If sky can somehow bring him home inside the top 10-12 today, on what is the easiest climbing day, then he just has to hope over the next two days that results fall the right way for him, ie. contador or brajovic dont win BOTH stages..

Depends what happens today. Im really hoping that Geraint can somehow become the Wiggins of this dauphine and surprise everyone.

If Szmyd has the legs he had in Italy, he has a strong shot at winning today. Regardless, he should be up there amongst the top 5. It's clear the break won't survive so it will be on at the climb

Actually, that's not a bad idea (in a way). Instead of coming here in July I will just play some PCM 10.

You're expecting evenhandedness from THESE mods?

average 6,7% according to letour.fr (879m/13000m)

That should be enough for Millar to stay up there with the main contenders depending on who attacks and who responds. Obviously he can't go with Brajkovic etc on the climb but if they let someone else go, he has a chance to stay in the top 5.
