He could choose his line only if Pauwels had not reached his gear shifting before, which is hard to tell from that angle. Pauwels could not choose the other side because there were the barriers. Pauwels won a similar sprint against Stybar and Nys last season in Lille when they all sprinted in straight lines.

------

Kevin wasn't super yesterday in Gieten and that's why he stayed in the wheel for a brief moment after chasing alone from very far away. He said so in the interview. In top form he might've won.

Pretty cool to see Igor Anton awarding that Basque hat(sorry, don't know the name) to Kevin Pauwels today.

Also nice to see José Antonio Hermida riding a cyclo-cross event. Didn't work out so well though :p

Nice to see Bart Wellens back on the winners podium today even if he was the beneficiary of Nys's bad luck!! was it a puncture or mechanical? Decent placing for Albert's on his return but he clearly faded. Pauwels well back and Stybar nowhere.

What happened to Klaus Vantornout? started well but then vanished, did he drop out?

A mechanical, but don't ask me what kind. If it was a puncture he wouldn't have given up like that.

His rear derailleur ripped off. Very disappointing, but it's great to see Wellens take the win.

The commentators were saying it was something else. Niels Albert also said that Sven's rear derailleur was still on.

What a great race :) Nys is indeed a monster, amazing ride by him.

Stybar, Albert and (judging from yesterday) Wellens all back on a good level, that will be very interesting for the coming weeks.
