Uran is no sprinter, I think he thought he would catch Vino out and force Vino to lead him out. Vino read the move, Uran moved too far over and lost too much speed, and it was over from there. Vino is generally recognised as probably being a better breakaway man, better on the flat and quite explosive, Uran has a fairly short history, mainly as a climber.

There is zero proof that Vino bought anything, and until any proof of buying the win emerges (which I doubt it ever will), this is all conspiracy and hearsay. Uran made a mistake Vino took advantage of that mistake and won.
Besides winning a olympic medal is something a rider only gets a chance at every 4 years, where a race like LBL takes place every year on the same course. And who know if the next olympic race would be a course that suits Uran. Winning gold in the olympics is once in a lifetime, I doubt any cyclist would take some money over olympic gold.

I don't buy it. If you go back and look at the video of when Vino attacked, Uran lost concentration on Vino and that's when Vino attacked. It was when Uran looked to his left, to see if the chase group was a threat. Seems obvious he lost focus, he was probably exhausted. I can understand why people think he was paid, it was a major screw-up. But a silver is great for Uran and his country. One thing I do know for sure is that Vino was focused like a laser on victory.

Im assuming you are thinking of Andres Escobar, but Andres went into a dangerous area of Medellin back when it was far more dangerous than now, on his own into a bar. Its not like every delinquent in Colombia had a contract out on him the second he scored the very unfortunate own goal.

Colombia has a history of rural violence and in the 80's - 90's increasing urban but its not like they are going to randomly hunt down a cyclist over some stuff like that.

The writing was on the wall. I was confident that Vino was going to win. Colombians have never been known for their great sprinting. As for Vino, his constant refusals to discuss the past are eloquent but I have nothing against his current win. He gets tested. Nothing found, move on. He is also an expert at reading a race and knowing when to react.

Also that shooting was linked(though never proven) to a betting syndicate taking revenge. There's no big money involved in cycling bets and practically no one would have bet on Uran anyway.
