Doping In Athletics

How about this blast from the past:

Twenty-three top Chinese swimmers tested positive for the same powerful banned substance seven months before the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 but were allowed to escape public scrutiny and continue to compete after top Chinese officials secretly cleared them of doping and the global authority charged with policing drugs in sports chose not to intervene.

Several of the athletes who tested positive — including nearly half of the swimming team that China sent to the Tokyo Games — went on to win medals, including three golds. Many still compete for China and several, including the two-time gold medalist Zhang Yufei, are expected to contend for medals again at this year’s Summer Games in Paris.

You gotta love the OAC enjoying the broadcast rights revenue from that country no matter how it completely destroys the credibility. Credibility.....HAHAHAHAHA....money!
Then to take it up a notch, send those same swimmers to Paris, and blackmail the organizers of the Salt Lake Winter Olympics and local politicans to stop USAD's investigation into said swimmers or lose the Winter Olympics. "Playing tough ball" I think was the old phrase.

It is not in USAD's portfolio to investigate this issue, whether or not, you have the ridiculous Rodenchcov act. USAD would be better served to investigate athletes that fall under their watch, as USAD and UKAD are as dodgy as hell. Finally, I doubt how much further you can go because USAD/FBI does not have the authority to investigate this matter and even id they did, there would little or no co-operation from an opaque China.

Someone in the know is obviously not happy that these swimmers got off scot free -

https://www.wada-ama.org/sites/default/files/2024-04/2024-04_fact_sheet_faq_chinese_swimming.pdf
In 2022, the International Testing Agency (ITA) contacted WADA in connection with a tip-off it had received suggesting that the Chinese swimmers’ sample results had been manipulated and/or not properly reported.
In April 2023, USADA’s investigation department contacted WADA Intelligence & Investigations (I&I) based on a tip-off that it had apparently received alleging that these cases had been hidden and that the informant/source claimed to possess evidence.
and then in April this year the story broke in NY Times & ARD .

Between the Chinese swimmers, the Dutch volleyball guy and everything else going on in sport these days, whoever delivers the Olympic Oath this year might actually have to go to jail for perjury.
Olympic Oath. Do you mean this one? This copyrighted broadcast may not be retransmitted, reproduced, rebroadcast, or otherwise distributed or used in any form without the express written consent of NBC.

Interesting that "Romania's National Anti-Doping Organisation sanctioned her only with a reprimand on Feb. 1 with no period of ineligibility on the basis that she was not at fault or was not negligent." but WADA went to CAS and of course they said,

No Olympics for you!"

Long artcile on doping in athletics and USAD's work
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/a...ed-undercover-agent-to-lift-the-lid-on-dopers
Go undercover and provide the authorities with information about other dopers he was in contact with and he could keep running. It was more than a week before they met again. By then a formal cooperation deal was on the table and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency was now involved. The performance-enhancing drugs commonly used by distance athletes who dope potentially break US federal law, so the athlete became a DEA undercover informant.

Kind of seems like a game of "chicken" to me. Deny the American's the Olympics vs. deny the IOC that sweet, sweet, American cash.

One thing's for sure, American politicians at the federal level care very little about whether SLC gets the Olympics.

"In the undercover footage, Fuentes boasted that he is still up to date on contemporary blood doping methods: "I don't do it anymore, but I know others that do it. They no longer infuse a whole bag of blood, because that would show up in your blood profile. They only use half a bag. Or they even divide it into thirds. Instead of the full amount of 500 millilitres, 150 millilitres are administered on the first day, 150 millilitres again five days later, and another 150 millilitres after ten days. So, it's a progressive increase. That way the values don't change!""

Does the article end with the mention of Keino (as clean) in 1968? Or does one have to be a subscriber to read more? Seemed to end abruptly.
That was the entire article. It was just comparing Keino (was supposedly clean, we dont know - I remember him doing a warming down routine after the marathon) with the current system of doping.

In the current political climate, I don't suppose that the US will hesitate to bash the Chinese for doping.

The americans are so obsessed with the Olympics that all of their media falsify the medals table to put the americans in the first place

Americans do love their metal counts, but that doesn't change the fact that most US politicians won't care if Salt Lake loses the Olympics. The only politicians that will are the ones from Utah. No politician from Alabama, Tennessee or Mississippi is going to care one iota if Utah loses their Winter Olympics. game

Furthermore, TV ratings for the 2022 Olympics were down 40% in the US. If WADA or the IOC think they have leverage over the US political system, they would be mistaken. If anything, they might want to be careful as the the money for bribes and whores that the IOC leadership is so used to might start to dry up.

TV ratings were naturally low, as americans don't like to see what the Chinese are building, and the time difference between the two countries is also big.

americans like to brag about holding large-scale sports events. See how angry they were when Qatar was awarded the FIFA World Cup. They got the rights to host it in 2026, despite the fact that it will probably be one of the biggest shitshow/cringefest in history. As the recent Copa America showed. Apart from third world public transport, awful visa system, the americans build the stadiums mainly for propaganda purposes, they look good from the outside but inside they are cheap crap with their artificial grass...

Moreover, the americans usually always use public money to build these sports facilities worth billions. Which is always good business for the corrupt politicians, not as good as wars, but such a construction fills some pockets. Especially as I said before, they try to make the construction as expensive as possible while keeping the maintenance of the facility to a minimum with artificial grass.

The English were pretty upset about losing the bidding battle as well 😂

That's actually a pretty great series, being I knew fairly little about doping in Chinese swimming I found it very interesting and informative. I'm just about finished watching the whole series, thanks for posting the link!

They were dead last in the voting, beaten not only by the Russians but also by Spain/Portugal and Belgium/Netherlands :tearsofjoy: Of course they will never host a World Cup again after cheating in 1966. South Americans won't forget it.
That ball crossed the line in 66, just like Maradona's hand of god in 86 did, Im sure the South Americans don't forget that one either, so they both counted.

and England didn't get the world cup simply because they assumed it was a fair contest, when clearly it isn't.
