Doping In Athletics

Uh, oh guys. This time the IAAF's major personalities implicated by Fancy Bears.

Mo, "Answer the doorbell" Farah
American NOP uncontrolled human experiment Rupp.

https://fancybear.net/pages/fancy-bears-strike-iaaf.html

Her investigation files demonstrate discriminating and cynical nature of the current anti-doping control system. On the one hand the system patronizes some athletes by means of therapeutic use exemptions, on the other it applies a severe punishment to the expectant mother.

So, at this point, we know the federation knows with good detail who is doing what. I've been saying for years, TECHNICALLY, the bio-passport works. It's the federation not sanctioning dopers.

Fancy Bears send very interesting documents regarding the whole Schwazer chase to a local journalist who contacted them.
I don't have time to sumarize everything, but WADA contacted the Cologne lab that tested him positive and has the sample and told them that they shouldn't send the sample to Italy, so that they couldn't make the DNA test, that was ordered by the court of Bolzano.

I have zero sympathy for the guy and he made a few pretty disgusting statements a few years ago when he got busted for the first time ("I'm not a crook, I'm from South Tyrol, not from Napoli") and I don't think that he was able to perform on that level durning his comeback without any help, but it looks like he got screwed.

Very interesting, but not shocking (though it could be "shock & awe" for a lot of the Rupp worshipers...standby).

I'm surprised to see Kenyan athletes listed, as I didn't think Kenya was part of the ABP program due to no WADA-accredited Labs in the region to conduct the blood tests...I guess they are now.

Oh, yeah, for sure Kenyans are in the ABP program. Kenya is part of a regional anti-doping organization that includes Ethiopia. The last testing stats I saw had annual single-digit blood tests done in the RADO. So, it seems like they are getting blood drawn around an event.

The numbers used to give credibility to some kind of anti-doping effort are mostly urine tests.

The other point I failed to make earlier was this is a great example of how the system was set up to be absolutely certain there are no false positives conveniently hides doping.

In an imaginary world with little corruption at a global level, the system makes it relatively easy to dope as long as you are smart about it.

http://world.24-my.info/jamaican-sprinter-jason-livermore-was-caught-doping/
Jamaican Sprinter Jason Livermore passed test positive for doping; the substance found in his sample “A”, is not yet known.

In 2014 Livermore in the company of Usain Bolt Kamara Bailey-Cole and Nickel Asmida became the winner of the Commonwealth Games in the 4x100m relay and won the individual bronze at the distance of 200 m.

On 11 September during a meeting of the anti-doping Commission of Jamaica held a hearing on the case of Livermore.

Recall that Usain Bolt was stripped “gold” Olympic games in 2008 in the 4×100 m relay race because of doping, discovered his teammate Nesta Carter.

Original story in Spanish http://www.elconfidencial.com/depor...-aden-red-dopaje-sabadell-musa-balla_1411544/

Jama Aden trial to be this Autumn (Fall) according to Spanish newspaper El Confidencial. Spanish poice have seen him leave the hotel and throw away a bag with "bloody syringe" in it. Lots of goodies found in Moroccan physiotherapist Mounir Ouarid's room.

Jama Aden has connection to Sweden with agent Ulf Saletti and a training camp in a suburb of Stockholm (where 5 discarded syringes with Eprex (a type of EPO) were found (see http://www.dn.se/arkiv/sport/polisen-i-sollentuna-fick-in-sprutor-med-dopningsklassat-preparat/) Eprex was also found in the raid on Aden's hotel in Spain.

(interesting comment from Swedish trainer Ulf Friberg, " Taoufik Makhloufi was fat and untrained 6 months before the Olympics in 2012 and being beaten by Swedish athletes, then he goes on to win the Olympic gold in the 1,500 meters."
Any cyclists who were fat and went on to becoming world beaters? Mmm ... let me think now :))

In English https://www.evolutionary.org/european-athletics-president-accused-of-covering-up-doping-tests/
Svein Arne Hansen, President of the European Athletics Associations, has been accused of having helped cover for doped athletes in the 1980s.
In an article in Norwegian (that should be Swedish) newspaper Aftonbladet, (see https://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/a/lPeG9/fick-betalt-for-att-gora-dopningsprov ),track and field athlete Patrik Sjöberg alleged that Hansen helped cover up doping tests during the 1980s taken during the Bislett Games. Sjöberg remarked we, who he knew were clean, were paid to do doping tests and went on to add that Hansen has a lot to tell. The track and field athlete also remarked maybe he should let us clean athletes keep our stuff. Sjöberg, referring to records that could be erased, said that he was offered 500-1000 USD to ‘do the job’.

Reacting to allegations, Hansen denies having had any knowledge about which athletes were tested at the time. The EAA President threatened to sue Sjöberg following the accusations.

Anne-Lise Hammer, marketing manager of the Bislett Games at the time, echoed the version of Sjöberg. Hammer termed description of Hansen a ‘distortion of the reality.’ The marketing manager of the Bislett Games also commented that the highest priority for the Bislett Games in that period was to have the fewest possible scandals, the most records, the biggest possible name, and filling the tribunes. Hammer also said Hansen himself has claimed to have done a doping test on behalf of an athlete who was competing at the Bislett Games so that the possibly of a positive test could have been avoided.

That's actually an interesting way of seeing it.
(Although I do think he's been caught lying on plenty of previous occasions, e.g. wrt his ties to Jama Aden)

He's rather like the drink driver who goes out and gets pissed but boasts to everyone he's never failed a breath test.

His and his entourage's are a carefully crafted form of words. Note also the implied legal threat emanating from his spokesman.

http://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1052390/farah-threatens-legal-action-after-one-of-47-athletes-named-in-latest-fancy-bears-cyber-attack

Haven't we seen this all before somewhere?

P.S. The Jama Aden debacle was pretty definitive in its own way. I'm surprised Farrah still gets the time of day really. Shows you can never underestimate the intelligence of the average Joe public when it comes to doping and sporting heroes.

A kiss is just a kiss, unless, apparently, that kiss is followed by a doping test. In that case a kiss, or rather several kisses, can get you in trouble with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

That’s what happened to U.S. Olympic runner Gil Roberts, who an arbiter recently ruled had ingested the masking agent probenecid unknowingly by “frequently and passionately” kissing his girlfriend just hours before his March 24 test.

Judge John Charles Thomas explained the full story in his case summary released on July 10, noting Roberts’s girlfriend, Alex Salazar, had taken the substance as part of a medication she procured to treat a sinus infection while traveling in India. But because she had trouble swallowing pills, she took the medication by just swallowing the powder kept in the capsules.

According to the documents, Roberts, 28, had no idea Salazar was taking the medication or that she had taken the medication while “they kissed and ‘chilled out’” the afternoon of March 24. Moreover, Roberts did not remember tasting medicine or anything bizarre when he smooched his girlfriend. He did remember, however, that the two kissed a lot.

...

In 2009, French tennis pro Richard Gasquet was cleared for having cocaine in his system after evidence showed he ingested a trace amount of the substance after kissing a woman at a nightclub the night before.

Canadian pole vaulter Shawn Barber was also cleared after failing a doping test for cocaine when he proved he accidentally ingested trace amounts of the substance after kissing an escort he hired the night before.

That's interesting. Have heard some stories along those lines from a couple of people with a lot of knowledge about the norwegian athletics scene.

So Roberts was not concerned that his GF had a sinus infection days before his event. What a joke it all is.

So Travis Tygart, USADA and co really want the Russians, Kenyans, and Jamaicans to get their act together, but when one of their own athletes gets busted, they let them compete no matter what? What sort of excuse is 'kissing' someone that has a sinus infection? First of all, you endanger that persons health and your own health by kissing (or in this case, a ton of kissing), but the excuse is just that, an excuse. Tygart keeps showing his true colors any time an American gets popped, certainly top Americans. He wants to keep the Russians away from the world's and olympics but when a top American gets busted, he and USADA will go to any length to clear them and let them compete.

Documentary film "Icarus" about Russian doping and Grigory Rodchenkov -
On Netflix at https://www.netflix.com/se-en/title/80168079

Reviewed athttps://www.theguardian.com/sport/b...-scandal-bryan-fogel-drugs-olympics-athletics

“In his opinion today Wada still knows nothing. He believes the entire system is essentially a joke. He likens the fight of the anti-doping movement to believing in the Bible.”

Some athletes shown in that documentary (or whatever you want to call it) have nothing to do with Rodchenkov.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/26/sports/track-and-field-world-championships-medals-doping.html

When the world championships of track and field begin next month in London, there will be a few extra medal ceremonies.

Eleven athletes and five teams whose results from past world championships have been upgraded because of doping violations will receive their new medals, the International Association of Athletics Federations, the governing body of track and field, said on Wednesday.
...
A number of other athletes who have chosen not to attend the London event next month, or are unable to, will be given their medals on other occasions.

Are silent bans still going on? A well known Australian 400m runner took an enforced two year holiday years back. Anyone know of others who were banned on the quiet?
