Positively surprised by Mas today.
Does he normally climbs better on short and steep climbs? Tomorrow could be a great opportunity for him.

It's my impression that he performs quite well on steep climbs. In Pais Vasco on Usartza he was amazing as well.

Today was a shorter climb and ofc steep. It suits Mas. So far he didn't impress me on longer gradual climbs yet.
Sunday will be a real test for him. Saturday will suit him as a glove

He had a fever on the stage to Covatilla. Let’s see how the next two days go.

Really great today, moved up 2 spots in the GC and stayed with the (other) contenders all the way. He seems to be getting his form back slowly but surely!

Wow, great performance. He gambled and attacked multiple times and I thought he'd maybe drop after those efforts but he stayed with the others easily. Very nice result among established GC names.

It's one thing to hang on for dear life to get a GT top 10, but this is quite a different thing.

Ok. The hype train is officially on. This kid is the real deal. He may not win 7/9 GTs, but he’s going to be a winner some day. Impressive recuperation. May not have to explosive acceleration of young Contador, but seems to be able to handle the constant high pace better than most. Astana were seriously gunning it and Enric seemed to do more than hold his own.

This is the first time I'm REALLY impressed with him. Ofc he was there or thereabouts before. But this is going with the heads of state. That is something else. It really starts now

Climbing on the train! He not only stayed with the best, he attacked them and then was still around. He might top 5 his first GT riding for GC. Hopefully he has a good TT tomorrow!

The next Alberto Contador? No, the first Enric Mas!!

WOW :) :) :)

Told you he has superb future GC potential. I heard rumblings about his magic numbers which are near Bertie-esque.

Paced himself really well. Time compared to others:

Dennis (int.1 int.2 finish) +17" | +39" | +1'03"
Kruijswijk +22" | +15" | +12"
Valverde +5" | -24" | -32"
Quintana -18" | -51" | -1'07"
Yates +2" | -9" | -25"

He looks probably for the first time in his career like a future contender for GT wins rather than top 10s. Very impressive and also a good balance between climbing and the TT.

Top 6 almost guaranteed if you look at the gap to Pinot. Yates could still have a meltdown and Valverde was already on the edge up to Covadonga. So even top 3 is not out of the question for Enric Mas! But for now I am happy with his performance, even more so with the backstory of his crash shortly before the Vuelta.

Today produced arguably the clearest evidence yet that Enric Mas (Quick-Step Floors) will one day win a Grand Tour.

Having impressed over the last three summit finishes and proved himself to be one of the best climbers of the race, Mas confirmed that he also possess a very strong time trial in his armoury, finishing sixth on the stage with a time just 1-03 slower than Dennis’.

He’s still in the mix for a podium finish, but whatever happens from here until Madrid, the 23-year old looks like the real deal.
