Wait... Why wasn't the Icelandic keeper sent off?

Because there wasn't a clear goals scoring oportunity for Sterling. It's not the last man, but the opportunity taken away that count's for a red card.
Well, it did seem to me like a clear opportunity, but I guess YMMV.

Well he was trying to pass the goalie and running away from goal, maybe out of play even, to score he'd have to turn after that and from a very bad angle. That's the way I saw it. But I hate that rule anyway. ;)

Lol this was embarrassing.I know this England team lacks quality but still they were playing worse than ever, hardly creating any goal scoring opportunity during this game.

Sure that you won't get a ban for comparing the great Vieri to Sterling? ;) :p

Amazing. Tournaments like Euros and Worlds are just great to watch. Football at its purest.

Football at club level has become dog *** of course with all the money involved, but every 2 years during summer, yeah, I'm really excited about football.

Not a big fan of the Azzurri but i'm happy for them today.Germany should normally crash them but i expect a great game.
Next one i hope England is up to the task, goals galore hopefully.
Italy has got the upper hand against Germany in big tournaments, if I remember correctly. It will be a great match - Probably the two best-playing teams of the tournament meeting in the quarterfinals. If only it could have been in the actual final. . .

And nice to see that Iceland knocked out England. France will be a tough ask, but one can always hope for another sensation :)

Credit to Iceland, they deserved the win.

As for England, an utter shambles. Roy didn't know his best team, he didn't know his best formation and the players underperformed at a tournament yet again. Got what they deserved.

I just realised what I hate about the format. One match, sudden death. Really makes teams play defensive and play destructive football.

Conte has been amazing in setting up and conducting his team. What a team. BBC and Buffon, GIANTS. I hate Juve, but those players are just BOSS. Buffon is in the top 3 GKs of all time, the consistency is frightening.

And Iceland. Proper team setup, proper defending. England the complete opposite. The Tottenham boys have been massively underperforming apart from Walker. So pleased for them.

You have a strange definition of a clear goal scoring opportunity.
Its a crap rule with penalties anyway

The rule has been changed since first of June.

If a Keeper fouls a player who has a clear goalscoring opportunity which results in a penalty, the keeper no longer be given a red card.

It's to stop the 'triple' punishment that was a little unfair. The opposition get a penalty, a potential goal and then a man advantage.

If a penalty is awarded you can't send the player off unless it's for dangerous play.

The penalty and the potential goal are one and the same, so it was a double punishment at most.

Yes of course my mistake, The triple punishment is a penalty, a red card and thirdly that player serving a suspension for the next game.

Don't bother with it PS you've called it correct.

Well done Iceland, you were amazing. A shame that Raisford was only granted 5 minutes play time, the only one with the guts and skill to run at the Iceland defence.
The England team truly shown up, overpaid, overbloated egos with only moderate talent. The highest paid of all, the captain and talisman, miserably subbed, just when his team needed a strong leader.
How embarrasing compared to the superb Italy v Spain a few hours earlier.

It's true the Germans have a real problem with Italy but they look a notch above the rest here. This rivalry will deliver a great match, like always and that's all it maters.
