I would say it is more surprising that Bissegger didn't crash than that he won.

BTW, I'm guessing the reason they started with the men's road race was to give riders a chance to do both that and the Vuelta, and 15 riders have indeed jumped onto the fast plane to the Netherlands. Of course, it also has the nice bonus of making the women's road race the "big finale" for once.
Nobody has been crazy enough to do both the ITT and the Vuelta, even though it - technically - would be possible.

I though that the course would be a bit too hard for Bissegger but he was a good day and manage not to crash.

It's not strictly road, but in case anyone wants to watch, there is the women's MTB race going live in 10 minutes! Yesterday it was Tom Pidcock who won the race.
