Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

And the stomp is back. The cycling season has now officially started.

Also, fun little anecdote in the post-race Eurosport interview: Rog said Jumbo had a plan but he wasn't the first plan. Aka Wout van Aert was the main guy for the stage today but his crash changed their plans at the last minute.

To be fair, he didn't look good at all today which puts his win as even more of a good sign for later objectives (Catalunya, Giro). He was dropped hard on first ascent and riding in the back of the group which is always a sign he doesn't feel good. Wouldn't be that surprised if he ships some time tomorrow on the last climb.

Good that Mighty Wout decided to crash and give Primoz a chance. I think this brilliant tactical move was exactly what they were chatting about moments earlier.

Winning the stage is proof that he doesn't feel good. ;)

You know what I meant. He was lucky that after Alaphilippe's attack everything came together as he was barely hanging on as last man in the 3rd group. I doubt it was a tactical decision but rather inability to follow the best. I also saw him eating two times after that, so it might have even been hunger knock, but I dount you can bounce back after that so quickly to win the stage.

He started the climb way back in the peloton as is often the case with Rogla. Fortunately it all came back together.

I’m sorry but this makes no sense. You can’t really be claiming that the guy who won the stage had a bad day or wasn’t feeling good. He was obviously bluffing or something. He has been known to do that. You can’t be barely hanging on and then all of a sudden accelerate like madman.

He may be dropped tomorrow but today, he surely felt good.

I actually agree he was not at his best today but why would he be? I also expect him to lose some seconds to Mas and Yates tomorrow, but his goal is to be at his best in the Giro. On the other hand you never know with Rogla. There were times when I thought no way he'd fight for the win and then he destroyed the competition. Anyway, today's victory is a great sign. I calculated he was riding the stage at 84%. The stomp was at 87%. Still room to grow.

Win number 66 ladies and gents!

Classica San sebastian comes to my mind. Evenepoel struggled there and made a huge attack to drop everyone. One of the most WTF moments from him

Evenepoel didn't struggle, he had a mechanical and was behind the peloton when they started the penultimate climb. He had to move his way through the peloton on the climb, but before he got to the front of the peloton, the peloton split and he was caught in the second group. He had to bridge in the descend and in the valley.

I think it was quite evident that he won by class more than by form yesterday. The finish really suited him, and he was fortunate that Ala also wasn't impressive. He also rode the final climb really well, staying near the front to maintain a good position and judging his efforts well.

I expect him to finish between 5th and 10th today.

Maintaining a position near the front requires legs though. I agree that if Roglic is at his best he already teleports on the final steep section, but I think it's more the real uphill sprints he can win without the form being there like in the Vuelta last year.

It also depends on who paces Sassotetto and how hard the wind is. If it's still together at the finish I have him winning.

I think tomorrow is much harder for Roglic.

The question is not whether he's in his top form or whether he is able to win this race. The claim I was opposing was that he struggled yesterday on that climb each time they went uphill and that his poor positiong was a reflection of that struggle. And then at some point he decided he is not struggling anymore and wins the stage? I don't buy that...

I also think he is pretty far from his regular self. I think his regluar self would have launched so hard noone would be able to follow (think San Luca 2021, for instance)...
