Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

Rog can now let the race come to him. It's Mas who has to keep on attacking. Not just attacking Rog, but O'Connor as well.

He needs to gain 1:25 over the next two MTF's. Also for what it's worth I think Saturday is 'overrated' as a raid stage. Its cols are long drags & not parrticularly explosive.

Picon Blanco is hard though.

Mas needs way more than the 1:25 with the TT. Roglic can probably lose 2 minutes to him from here until then and still win.

I was talking about Mas needing time on O'Connor.

He needs to retake that time and then some in order to be safe for the ITT on Sunday if he wants second in GC. Rog meanwhile can continue to surf on Mas's wheels. The race is literally landing on his lap right now.

Today was more on the attritional side and O'Connor still dropped a minute. If I'm Roglic I'm more wary of a Mas counter than not putting more time into O'Connor, although I absolutely want to lead by a full minute come time trial just because I don't wanna be *** around with no mechanicals and what not.
I think if he just focuses on Mas completely, he will gain extra 2 minutes on O’Connor before TT automatically…

Yes, before stage 20 for insurance. Carapaz is sneaking in there as a threat, too.
If the team is strong enough (perhaps with some help from Movistar) to keep the break in check on Friday’s stage Roglic could easily grab a win plus bonus seconds and provide all the cushion he needs going into the TT. Picon Blanco is the tougher climb but I think that Sat will be much too hard to control.

I think at this point & looking at what's coming, most predictions in a GT are always more 'theoretical' in nature, i.e. in the sense it's always based on worst case scenario versus best case scenario.

I'm seeing a lot of talk about stage 20 being some sort of mythical uncontrollable raid stage (like the one which made Superman Lopez rage quit 3 years ago) but honestly, we just don't know.

As always I'm way more concerned with incidents/crashes etc. because so far, this Vuelta has been peachy in that regard. I guess the 20 second drama on Sunday was as close as we've been to some typical Rog mid-GT soap opera.

But other than that he's racing brilliantly IMO.

Is this supposed to tell me Mas will spank O'Connor on Sunday or something? I'm not seeing it.

It's a pan flat 24km ITT. Hell, I don't even expect Rog to pull big gaps versus the other GC podium contenders either.
Looks like i misunderstood your meaning. From the other poster i got the impression you meant he needed to have 1m25s in hand before the TT. But you meant he needed to make up his current deficit.
