He really wants to beat Kuss according to his interviews. He is just racing for himself. He can do this, but its selfish I think.
No he doesn't. This is just his answer to Grischa Niermann, who when Vingegaard broke a script at previous stage, find a solution that everyone of the three is free to ride for himself.
Well now Primoz is riding for himself. And I bet, if Niermann doesn't change the "rules", he will attack again, already tomorrow, and at stage 20 also...

That sums it up, really. TJV comes up with a framework where Vingegaards actions are ok and now Roglič will try to”exploit” that framework and show them what it’s all about.

Unfortunately, this little coup means no Tour for him next year. And most likely it’s too late to win the Vuelta anyway (even if he has better legs than Vinge). And the tragedy of it is that once Vinge wins this Vuelta, he will be saying he was merely reacting to Roglic (not that many will fall for that).

The only positive here is that Rog’s stock will be quite high after this Vuelta and he should be able to change teams. Which now he will undoubtedly be willing to do.

The best for roglic is moving to another team like ineos.
He should have left last year. After Vinge won his 1st tour, he was always going to be Jumbo's #1 option. Furthermore, it is even more so after Vinge's dominance in this years TDF. If Roglic wants his primary target next year to be the Giro, he can stay. Otherwise, time to move on.

I bet those two never race in the same grand tour as Jumbo Visma teammates again. Reminds me of putting Lance and Contador on the same Astana team back in 2009. Lots of friction.

I agree, i think is impossible that roglic goes to the tour with Vingegaard, because roglic will not accept work for vingegaard, just like lance would never accept work for contador, going as a domestique instead of leader.
Roglic would never accept a role like what adam yates did in this tour, for pogacar.
It's time for him, to move to another team. Certainly he's got a lot of teams interested, and he will be a undisputed leader in every team except uae or jumbo.

Besides Ineos, I think both Trek and IPT are looking for a high $$$ GC leader. (Rumor that IPT might be buying the Ineos license and Ineos in turn buying the Quick Step license, not sure how reliable that rumor is though).

I got banned for a week...I had some work to do but boy, what a rollercoaster Vuelta. A week ago I rightly stated that Jumbo were in a puddle of mud with a full podium. Besides seeing my poor boy Almeida getting sick, I missed:

1) the demise of Remco as a GT contender;
2) the immediate cult of Remco fans upgrading him again to a GT contender; :tearsofjoy:
3) the soft-spoken betrayal of both Roglic and Kuss by Vingo...seriously, people that just play fans for stupid pisses me of....go for the win but don't mince words with "I wanted to win for my friend". Simply disgusting.
4) today's show...what was that? Kuss deserves better, seriously. Perhaps Roglic wanted to prove a point? To whom? There's still a way of Roglic having his cake and eating it...he was caught off guard in stage 16....just give up on winning La Vuelta and tow Kuss in order that Vingo doesn't win it too. Move to another team and strike back a very cold dish.

PS: I hence couldn't belittle Remco fans still pushing bambi's GT agenda or seeing the boy crying live on TV :tearsofjoy: I guess he grew up a bit, uh?

I also missed giving thousands of likes to some users in this thread for stating what obviously happened yesterday against blind Vingo fans...."there's something rotten in the kingdom of Denmark". Carry on.

Congratulations Mr. Angliru! Tomorrow hopefully again an attack on the penultimate climb. A minute is doable for third week monster!

P.S. I don't feel Sepp will object to that and Jonas wants to win too. The rules are known. Racing against each other, till the very end, for overall. May the best rider win.

If Roglic goes into red tomorrow, I wonder if Sepp should work with Vinge along with UAE later in the week to attack Roglic? Every man for himself, right? I am just wondering at what point should Jumbo not be attacking Jumbo?

A lot of emotions out en force today. Wow. What a stage. I admit that I felt conflicted about Roglic’s rides yesterday and today. On the one hand, he gave up a bit of the moral higher ground; on the other hand, he showed his strength and, yes, panache. Absolutely flying today. A minute faster than Contador in 2008, 2 minutes faster than Froome in 2017. Crazy fast.

I’m a little confused as to how Roglic is the big villain here today. Vingegaard has attacked on two mountain stages in a row, and Roglic sat with the group, giving up his chances at red to a teammate behind him on GC. Today he attacked and, unlike Roglic, Vingegaard and Kuss immediately followed. Yesterday, Roglic was supposed to get the win but Vingegaard took it. Today, Roglic took the win for himself. The problematic one, IF you think the team should ride for Kuss, is Vingegaard, who has gone from third to two minutes back to 8 seconds off the lead by leaving behind his teammate in red 3 stages in a row.

Also, of course LR has Roglic and Vingegaard pushing the same watts even though Roglic red 100% of the time (by contrast, they have Remco more watts/kg on Le Port even though Roglic beat him by ) seconds. And of course they de-emphasize what a monster performance this was.

I admit I had questions, which I posted here, but I now think that Roglic can be in the mix for a Tour. Can he beat Vingegaard on the same team? Doubtful, given Vingegaard’s insane ITT this year AND the team car’s decision, but possible.

How much time did Roglic lose to Vingegaard due to the following?
  • Waiting during TTT (20 second?)
  • Seemingly easing up for Vinge on stage 6 when Vinge apparently had GI issues and seemed like he was struggling (10 seconds?)
  • Following team orders on Tourmalet and only attacking at the very end after Vinge had built a minute gap (30 seconds?)
  • Sitting in the bunch yesterday instead of following Vinge (Vinge did not return the favor today, did he?) (60 seconds?)
That is potentially 2 minutes, and I don’t think I’m being overly biased here. Roglic looked like extremely strong, then he was either weaker or constrained by team dynamics - we weren’t sure - then he showed today that, yes, he was still supremely strong.

Having said that, I think the most likely scenario is that Vingegaard wins, followed by Kuss, then Roglic. Hoping they let the chase go so bonus is off the table so Vinge has to actually truly drop Kuss. Worried that Roglic will pull Vinge to victory over Kuss. But that’s sport.

Also, I think Roglic really is conflicted. He really would be happy for Kuss if he won. He really does think he owes it to himself, his family, his fans to go for the record tying Vuelta victory, especially given his age and reduced standing on TJV. He really does think he should honor the race and three sacrifices of preparing for this race, which he has been targeting all year. And if Kuss wins, I think he will be happy for him. It will no doubt be bittersweet either way, as evidenced by his lack of a celebration at the line today.
