Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

So not racing then and just everyone wait untill 200 meter and sprint sounds like the biggest snooze fest for me. No thanks. The giro 2023 proved that and so did the interest it draw. Lets face it nightmare scenario for most, panache is the way for most people who likes cycling I believe if you dont bother about who wins.

Between you and me... 'most people who like cycling' do so for chauvinistic reasons. Aka the reason people turn their tv on is to support riders from their own countries. I mean sorry for the nihilistic reality check here... but 'panache' is a point of view. Then the other fact is of course serial winners acquiring a very large fanboy following - like we see in tennis (and now cycling with Pog). But 'proper' cycling IMO has to always be about the difficulty of the sport and the little details which make it suspenseful, aka the teamwork, the route profiles, how each rider does on various types of profiles, the weather etc.

Has Roglic ever really spoken about Tour de Suisse and completion of the seven one-weekers as a particular goal?

That complete set and possible sole holder of the Vuelta wins record should be the goals now.

I think the 'real' goal should be adding another GT to his palmarès. Whether it's the Giro or the Vuelta, it doesn't really matter. 5 is already incredible.

Ah yes, like in 2023? 2022?

We need riders actually willing and capable to make the race.
This year has been the worst Giro of my lifetime. Making the race? What a ***. Monte Lussari stage was more interesting than this entire Giro.

As for Giro he would probably go only if Pog+Vinge arent' there otherwise he would focus on Suisse + Tour. A podium in Giro does nothing for him tbh. Fleche and Suisse are the two things left for him to win that suit him.

Smart!

I will choose races where Tadej will not be there. We still have to agree on that.

Quite logical, and I think next year in Giro might be Rog vs Remco again.

You’ve left out key bit of context, no?
<<“I will choose races where Tadej will not be there. We still have to agree on that," he jokes. "We'll see, I haven't thought about the race program in detail yet.">>
I think you know he’s joking around, but someone else will take that as completely serious.

Roglic did this well before even Pog was a monster. Like he almost always avoids him in the one-week races, they haven't raced against each other in those since Itzulia 2021 I think. And that's smart, he gained a lot of victories by doing it. He should continue even more next season.

2021 was also the only year where Pogi rode more than 1 of the 7 greatest one-week stage races. And the routes in 2022 and 2023 for PN and TA suited Rogla and Vingegaard such that it made sense for Vingegaard to go up against Pogi.

You forgot to add that Roglič also had covid.
He did? When?

I don’t know that I agree with this. I guess maybe casual fans who tune into a few stages in the Tour with little context, sure, but I think most true fans look beyond country. Maybe I’m just saying this as an American who would have had few winning options to cheer for, but my favorite riders have been Spanish (Contador), Dutch (Dumoulin), Slovenian (Roglic), Belgian (Wout), and American (Lance). Sure, I liked Lance because I’m an American and likely would have hated him if I hadn’t been, but aside from that, nationality had nothing to do wi th it.

That’s what the people want! Roglic vs Remco in the Giro (undercard), Pogacar vs. Vingegaard in the Tour, all out brawl in the Vuelta with all parties present.

But instead we’ll likely get all 4 in the Tour with the undercard in the same race 5 minutes back.

2021-2022 I think it was mainly that Roglic wanted to win Paris-Nice cause he already had won Tirreno back in 2019. Then in 2023 the decision to race either of them at all was made last minute and Vingegaard was already leader for Paris-Nice.

But the real reason Pogacar likes RvV is he's just dodging Primoz in Itzulia.

Yeah, that probably had greater weight. Rogla was also meant to ride PN in 2020 before Jumbo pulled out.

EDIT: Pogi was also meant to ride PN in 2020 before UAE pulled out, btw.

So i guess a rather successful transition to a new team, only rider besides Pogi to win a GT, winning a prestigious week long stage race and prestigious ITT against tough competition ... Some things were new, like on some races Rogla not being in the mood to some races on where he constantly attacked and decimated the field. Rewarded by i guess staying undisputed bull for at least another season. New team had some highs and lows too, from sometimes doing a rather bad job at it to being there, where needed the most.

Preparing good and staying healthy and consistent, this likely being the main goal for the 2025 season. Looking forward to that.

As for the races. Tour likely being the main goal of the season for Rogla and the team, ToS as a personal goal, WC RR as a good opportunity, especially now on where national team cohesion and selection should be top notch. For the rest best to wait and see on what the routes looks like and similar, although some hints emerged Giro might be at play and a stage involving Slovenia should be a nice motivation too. As for avoiding Pogi and all that, nah, no need for that, avoiding injures should do just fine.

Everything points to Vuelta #5 though (as always).
