There are no pictures of what Red Bull did? I think they rolled Onley as a pair which is really cool. Roglic likes Unopuertos and is getting better. Lipo looks still stronger then Onley. If one cracks they possibly still can get the podium.

i think Roglic attacked the group so Lipowitz could sit on Onley and then he attacked Onley and rode up to Roglic. the NBC ticker kept showing Roglic as 15-20 seconds ahead of the white jersey group inside the last 5k or so.

Ah, they only showed time they showed him on TV was with Mick van Dijke pacing and when Van Dijk was gone they showed them and it was only Lipo and Onley and I had basically just assume Rogla had exploded again and was throwing minutes again.

yeah i thought the same thing, but like a minute or two later it started showing Roglic as ahead of them. i still didnt believe it until they showed him with Lipowitz at the finish.

He always does his max, which is a highly commendable trait that doesn't get praised enough. It means whether it's Hautacam last week when he's legitimately dying out there or on a typical Vuelta rampas inhumanas that he's demolishing, he's always going all out.

And I think it's what gives him the ability to read his own body so well.

Friday's stage should suit him. Thursday will be more challenging. I don't believe he will attack Lipo but if Lipo explodes in the final week Bora could give him a go ahead and podium is still possible.

I was listening to Denk's podcast this evening and they're mostly interested in winning the white jersey. It's their number one objective because it has an individual podium photo during the final post-Tour ceremony. He said the podium is a nice bonus and it doesn't matter whether it's Lipowitz or Rog who stands there.

I do not see Lipowitz just going away because stages get hard, if anything that's his forté.

Best scenario I can see is being 3rd best on Madeleine and then being the right side of some lucky group dynamics.

Best scenario I see is Onley blowing up, leaving Rog with Lipowitz up front. This would create a no risk situation and allow them to have a bit of fun on Loze or on Friday (if it happens then).

BTW I'll join the opinion of others here who say the real important part is just Rog riding well, getting better and enjoying himself a bit.

I think today when he went low and aero and tried to follow Vinge's attack is probably the first time he actually had proper fun out there in this Tour in a stage. He just seemed so comfortable the entire time and easy on the pedals.

Yep, that's exactly what they did.

Roglic tried to follow Vingegaards initial attack but soon noticed he didn't have the legs. He went back to the Lipowitz group and paced it, leaving Lipo to take a breather on Onley's wheel. Then he attacked, Lipo followed him and Roglic pulled him up the climb to create a gap to Onley.

Well executed strategy from RBH on a day when both Roglic and Lipo didn't quite have the legs, at least that's what Lipowitz said in the post-race interview.

Evenepoel: "When I'm good I get top 3 in this MTT"

Lipo: "When Rog is good he don't get dropped by no Vingegaard bruder"

Would highkey be super interesting to see more of the group 2 dynamics with Onley, Roglic and Lipowitz in these stages, especially Hautacam and Ventoux. I have the feeling that Onley is getting absolutely worked lol
Hautacam was mainly Lipowitz trying to drop Onley and then waiting for Roglic to come back which ultimately cracked Roglic entirely.

Today I'm not entirely sure if Roglic was riding ahead of them for a while or if they were doing 1-2s because in the one shot we got after Van Dijke was done pulling it appeared to be Lipowitz and Onley alone, which is why I assumed Roglic was dropped.

Onley's Strava file does show like 11 spikes over 600W, but some are a bit short so I don't think it's literally 11 full attacks, and that's all in about 2.5km to Chalet Reynard after Vingegaard attacked. After that we only saw them on the display with the gap to 'Group Lipowitz' and then only in the finale did it become "Lipowitz" so I think Lipowitz rode away from Onley in the final 2km and Roglic had been riding in front of that.

Agreed, but I knew that exact thing would happen with the race coverage because they had to cover the front group going for the stage, and the group or rider chasing them, a camera on the yellow jersey and a moto cam of the remnants of the peloton.
