Ah well, at least we know whothe favourite is for next year.

Dunno, the way Poggio was ridden even Cippolini would have made it :D

I don't think he crashed due to fatigue as he wouldn't have attacked off the front if that was the case - seemed more like a rookie error, perhaps caused by the shock of being in a position to win. I really want to see that sprint again with Gaviria in it.

He really was in a great position - and he knew he would have won it... He crossed the line crying...

I see you know that too?!

Considering his Tirreno sprint, it's a fair assumption.

''Would have won'' is over the top, but he was certainly at that time the favoruite.

Paris-Nice sprinters did a better job.

Well yea, Gaviria crashed, Ewan isn't here and Sagan was taken out by Gaviria. Hard to blame them :D

Impressed to see him in the finale, but I was also surprised to see him make such a big mistake in a finale like that. Hopefully he's learned a lesson
Do we know for sure what happened though? I can't actually tell and I've watched multiple replays from two angles. Unfortunately, in the overhead view they go under trees just as it happens. I'll be interested to hear what he and others say about it.

Tell that to Cav.

Cav at his peak would have made it imho, but hes done with any hills for some time know.

P.S. And no Brit champs with amateur field and Sky are not a good example to counter :p

I agree. And I think he was dropped before the Poggio anyway.

God, that was painful to watch today. I was sure he was going to win it and a split second later he's lying on the ground, couldn't believe my eyes :(
It sure looked that way, didn't it? I thought the same. He was in a perfect spot, looked so calm, and was the most explosive sprinter there, imo. It happened so fast, but that's racing.

He already rode a sprint though inside the last k when he went after EBH and GVA, while Demare was in the wheels and also had the better momentum going into the final sprint.

Impressive ride nevertheless and a shame he crashed.

Don't think there was really any difference in momentum actually. Watching the replay, the group made the junction and then slowed down to the speed of the front group.

He must be heartbroken by now but riding like that at his age means he'll have at least 10 more chances to sprint in San Remo :)
That's what they said about Juan José Haedo, let's hope Fernando doesn't peter out like the Argie did.

I think... I think its safe to say that Nando is a little more talented than Heado. Lets hope that, at least. :p

Fingers crossed. Although never a CSC fan, I admit even I bought into the Haedo hype when he destroyed some of the world's top sprinters in California while riding for a domestic US team. He never really delivered on that promise.
