He looked really strong on the climbs but his positioning was bad, he started both Cipressa and Poggio in the middle of the peloton and then made his way to the front with ease. I guess if he was a little bit better positioned he could have gone with Sagan. To me it looks like Gav got in shape just at the right moment so he should be very strong in a cobbled classics.

Doubt he'll do well in the cobbled classics so early in his career.

I'm hoping he targets Amstel next. The new route should be in his favour.

Gaviria already did very well in cobbled races like Dwars door Vlaanderen and Gent Wevelgem last year. He could very well win the latter if it came down to a bunch sprint. With Paris - Roubaix being his dream race, he won't give up on it quickly.

I just hope his wrist injury isn't too severe because racing on cobbles with an injured wrist can be dangerous.

Before his wrist injury i was hoping he wins GW.

Are you joking? Van Avermaet, Gilbert and other puncheurs couldn't go with him, Alaphilippe and Kwiat hang on for dear life, and you think Gaviria could have gone with him?! :surprised: You're overestimating this guy

Gaviria navigated through the pack on Poggio really well and was second coming to the descent. If he was in Dege's position it wouldn't be impossible.

He's on the provisional startlist for both Vlaanderen and Roubaix, but isn't riding them. He's gone back to Colombia to prepare for the Giro.

Gaviria would not be a factor in ronde. In roubaix i really don't know. There are prep races to ronde but not for roubaix, that's the reason why roubaix's cobbles are so special

no place in the team. Boonen, Gilbert, Stybar, Trentin and Terpstra are all much better and Keisse, Vermote and Devenyns have proven their worth as domestiques. Can't say he deserves to go over any of them.

Good decision by the team. He's not ready yet and - at still only 22 years old - he could put himself in a bit of hole for the rest of the season by desperately trying to prove his worth in two of the most demanding races that exist. He's got decent experience from the semi-classics already, so better to rest and peak for the Giro rather than risking serious overtraining/overracing.

Yea, it seemed obvious he wouldn't ride those 2 races. Racing the Giro, QS depth and Boonen's last season all dictates he should wait a year. Too bad we don't get to see him in Roubaix tho.

Alaphilippe, Gilbert and Vakoc should all be capable enough of leading there.

Lampaert will probably ride Roubaix, I'd take him over Devenyns for that.

Lampaert is a shoe-in. He was already 7th two years ago and only missed last year because of medical problems. And this year he won DDV, so he has the form. They won't take him out.

Gaviria aseguró además que su meta en este 2017 es terminar el Giro de Italia —su primera carrera de 3 semanas— con 7 victorias “porque son los mismos días de carrera que hice el año pasado, pero hasta mitad de año”.

He's finishing - providing he doesn't crash.

It can never be bad for a rider as Gaviria to finish a GT. I believe it really does make you a better rider, also he can see hope he copes with 3 weeks, altho it maybe hard to get references since he can't sprint in the last week.

Hoping for pink. Disappointed me a bit in the classics, time now Fredo!
