Does anyone know exactly how Jon Dahl got injured? It didn't look that... violent... just like he somehow lost his balance and made that crazy jump over the Japanese keeper...

I didnt see it, but from what you described it sounds like it could simply be that he accidentally twisted something on the fall. Things like these happen occasionaly. Cest la vie.

Holland won't make it far this way. We need areal striker like Huntelaar. and some changes behind him.

Elia or Robben and Huntelaar in, replace Sneijder/Vaart and Van Persie, I would keep Van der Vaart in.
You can ecven put Persie in vd Vaart's place and vd Vaart in Sneijder's place. Sneijder is a joke so far.

The main feeling tonight for me was: we will get slaughtered by good opponents. TRhat changed a bit after the substitutions.
Snejider is trying to be something he's not, Persie isn't a striker. Defence was hilarious today.

Vvd needs to go. 3 matches, and mostly invisible. Again, slow, slow on/off the ball, unnecessary ball loss, doesn't recover lost possession well, seems to fizzle out after 70-75m, even his 'specialty' set pieces/accurate long passes are not top notch.

In 15m (?) Afellay showed more finesse and forward movement/threat than he did in 3 matches. Unfortunately, he might be too frail to last a whole match also.

Robben/Elia both added a lot of forward movement to the matches they played. V Persie hasn't managed to find his form, and the WC might have come too soon for him. Can he improve, how much time do you want to give him? Single elimination just started, no time to acclimatize anymore.

Elia and Robben (substituting VdV) do not add anything in 'height' to the offense. There is barely anyone who can actually head the ball in the back of the net, after the wingers swing it in. So everything needs to go, predictably, over the ground.

Huntelaar to add some height and killer instinct, as long as he keeps his nasty nagging manners in the locker room?

As someone who was born in New Zealand, I have to say I'm quite proud of how the All Whites have played in this tournament, to go unbeaten against teams that would normally trash them.

asif sniejder on bench. VdV has been far from his best (it is a pity, because he is a very good player) and lacks that killer ball that sneijder has.

I think RVP deserves more respect btw. His movement off the ball has been really good at times. Hopefully the goal improves his confidence.

Against better opposition, were gonna have to get the right attacking formation.

Robben should create space for the other players also. His return in the team will make a big difference.

I actually though VdV was pretty good last night. Yes, he stupidly conceded the penalty, although he did explain after the game that he only there in the wall in the first place because previously yellow-ed Nigel de Jong wanted to avoid trouble and asked VdV to replace him in the box. He moved very well I thought, although he still didn't stick to the left. He had the brilliant assist for RvP, and defended very well throughout the game.

Italy 2006, worst World Cup winners, or at least in recent years? Pushing towards yes.

at least they scored a goal. Unlike France in the Uruguay denmark and SOMALIA (lost 1-0) group of 2002. And with France there were no contentious decisions while with Italy this year 2 big ones went wrongly against them, any one of which would send them through.

what a day. Brazil v Portugal - hopefully Brazil will be motivated rather than go for a draw or a loss (would give them easier draw).

THen Spain vs Chille AND switzerland vs honduras.

I might ignore one and then watch the other.

The only shame is that brazil v portugal is first would have been better last. Oh well.

why do you want portugal moondance?

that portugal national anthem was straight out of a comedy script

the big portugal goalkeeper holding the smaller Christiano Ronaldo and singing patriotically while Cr reluctantly moves his lips

fruitless if Brazil feel like punishing cdi for diving and settle for a draw.
Well, that won't hold up long against the diving artists from Portugal.

I hate what juan did and would like to see him get red but i think yellow was right decision.
Duda pushed the ref so he got yellow too. would like to see that more

and now tiago gets yellow for diving.

i love this referee.

I thought he looked like he had no clue at the first situation. That yellow for diving was great.

he made some irrational calls at the beginning of the match I agree (duda yellow was soft..wow you got touched..) but as the game has gone on has gotten better I feel. Tiago deserved the yellow.

Pepe should have gotten red. Melo got him back pretty good though.

are the dutch posters getting worried? your place alongside portugal in the great world cup record (most yellow and red cards in a game) is under threat:D
