Its a diuretic, makes you pee more, a whole lot more, and by this dilution reduce the level of other agents in the urine.

Its main illicit use is in masking (hiding) other doping products, but can be used to 'make the weight' by boxers, wrestlers, and similar weight class athletes.

Oh, OK another sign that says that "clean cycling isn't" the case (yet? if ever). What a surprise. I don't trust many of any of the top 10 cyclists in any 3 week tour.
Wonder how this will affect RSNT, Bruyneel and the Armstrong case, pro cycling in Luxemburg and Andy.

Sad news.

However, I like how people predicted a positive RSNT test at the Tour due to USADA/Bruynell case. Some clever 'conspiracy' people in here :)

Considering it's a diuretic I doubt it helps performance :D

Jest aside, I assume it's a mask or cleansing drug.

I Wikipedia'd Diuretic, that helps :p

Why would you assume so? Doping is often found in blood right, only waste is converted into urine? So by your assumption Mr Schleck would've gone for a quick and dirty (pun :p ) dope attempt and tried to mask it by ****ing it out extremely quickly?

In that case, how effective would it be?

I'm pretty sure this is just like Hope Solo: prescribed to him by a doctor for his PMS...

I lolled. Just a little.

Probably for another thread, but I have little doubt that if Hope Solo was playing for anyone but the US she would be facing missing the Olympics due to a short (few week/months) ban.

Can we file this under 'least surprising news of the rest day'?

Sagan getting a Porsche? Now that's news!

Perhaps the dope Frandy got prescribed at Radioshack was blocking their performances (cf. Swart explaining how Testa's doping mix blocked his performances).

Or is this bruyneel's way of saying "thank you, frank, it's been a great few months"?

Nice way from Becca to get rid of Schlecks demands of payment ;-)

I won't lie, that's the first thing that crossed my mind. Stranger things have happened. Don't get me wrong, the guy had it coming just based on the fact that his federation buried the whole "large check to gynecologist" thing, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone spiked his water bottle, either...

still, I'm gonna go with "backdated TUE for PMS"....maybe from that same gynecologist...

Yeah. Bit surprised that he was caught now of all years.

Bit surprised Pat hasn't been able to shove this one under the carpet. Perhaps THAT's the real news here. Pat loosing control?

Odds on a dodgy supplement defense?

Those odds are high I'd say.

Nope to the bolded.
Most drugs of any sort have 3 ways out of the body.
1) converted (usually by the liver) to something else.
2) urine
3) faces

This particular drug is about:
1/3 converted
~1/5 in the urine in its unaltered form
rest in the feces

(all those years of boring pharmacokinetics finally have a use on the internet.)
