How about this retelling of the same story from brailsford in July 2013. Does it also not make clear that froome is allegedly riding in sand shoes?
Yep, I'll give you that one!

LaFlorecita said:Sand shoes are a sneaker type thing. I think. It's what Google tells me.
Must be a British word.
thehog said:Flips flops are like sandles. Australians call them thongs. They are made of rubber.
Sand shoes/sneakers are like running trainers.

The Hitch said:Eh.
That is the 2006 under 23 world championships in Salzburg, not the 2006 Commonwealth games in Melbourne.
the last page of this thread is a very good example of how clinic discussion ends up.
Very clear evidence is shown that Brailsford changed the facts in a story to make young Froome look far more talented than he actually was.
He says Froome rode in sandshoes and the picture shows Froome had cycling shoes at that very event.
But even this clear as day point gets disputed several different ways. First its claimed that not actually what Brailsford meant. (even though it clearly is what he meant)
Then when that fails, a war about the definition of sandshoes. - oh they aren't sandals, in Australia they are actually trainers.
So? How does that change anything. Whatever they are they are clearly NOT normal cycling shoes, otherwise they wouldn't emphasize that as a big deal. And cycling shoes is what Froome is wearing.
Now this new angle of requiring footage from the race? Why, the picture is clearly from the Melbourne games, it has the logo on it. Whatsmore it comes from froome's book so its not like the hog doctored it.

Dont worry, its just public relations.TheSpud said:The only bit I can't comment on is whether Brailsford is lying. He may indeed be accurately quoting what Shane Sutton said for all I/we know.
TheSpud said:Apologies for that - it's what our friends from Google came up with.
As an FYI I wasn't providing it as some sort of evidence it's just I saw it previously (erroneously described) and almost wet myself laughing. I agree with you on the photo provided by Hog - he's quite clearly wearing cycling shoes.

I was with Shane Sutton [the British head coach] on the beach road in Melbourne during the time trial. Chris rode past, and Shane said: "Bloody hell, there's a bloke in a pair of sand shoes, and he's going fast.

I dunno. It seems to me that there is plenty of flip-flopping going on around here.veganrob said:It is obvious in the quote they claim he is racing in sand shoes. Whatever they are, flip flops?
Also clear in the photo he is wearing cycling shoes. Not flip flops.
Wiki tells me that, in the U.S., the term is interchangeable with Chuck Taylors. No one has EVER referred to Chuckie, Ts as "sand shoes" or any other such thing.LaFlorecita said:Sand shoes are a sneaker type thing. I think. It's what Google tells me.

The Hitch said:If brailsford was accurately quoting Sutton, why do Suttons actual words change quite drastically from one telling of the story to the other?

When I was posting earlier I was on my phone so couldn't see things well - at the time all I could see was DB quoting SS. That doesn't make DB a liar.
The quotes are already on the thread, posted as part of today's discussion.TheSpud said:Provide me the links to the quotes / stories and I'll look at them.
