It seems its used in Australia, New Zealand and Scotland as a term for trainers (UK) or sneakers (USA). Rubber soles with a canvas upper - maybe also a bit like boating shoes? One things for sure - they aint cycling shoes.

Wonder how many extra watts you get from horse steroids? Seems like a lot.

This is the only footage i have been able to find. When you've stopped laughing try and see what type of shoes hes wearing.

Eh.

That is the 2006 under 23 world championships in Salzburg, not the 2006 Commonwealth games in Melbourne.

the last page of this thread is a very good example of how clinic discussion ends up.

Very clear evidence is shown that Brailsford changed the facts in a story to make young Froome look far more talented than he actually was.

He says Froome rode in sandshoes and the picture shows Froome had cycling shoes at that very event.

But even this clear as day point gets disputed several different ways. First its claimed that not actually what Brailsford meant. (even though it clearly is what he meant)

Then when that fails, a war about the definition of sandshoes. - oh they aren't sandals, in Australia they are actually trainers.

So? How does that change anything. Whatever they are they are clearly NOT normal cycling shoes, otherwise they wouldn't emphasize that as a big deal. And cycling shoes is what Froome is wearing.

Now this new angle of requiring footage from the race? Why, the picture is clearly from the Melbourne games, it has the logo on it. Whatsmore it comes from froome's book so its not like the hog doctored it.

What's next. A theory that Froome wore the cycling shoes only in the warmup that is pictured and then switched to sandshoes for the race?

Also lends weight that Sky/Brailsford told Walsh a lot of BS for the entire time he was with the team. Which Walsh bought into all of it without fact checking.

To to tell the sand shoe story in one book and print a picture in the next book, you'd think Walsh would have realised.

Diabolical.

Apologies for that - it's what our friends from Google came up with.

As an FYI I wasn't providing it as some sort of evidence it's just I saw it previously (erroneously described) and almost wet myself laughing. I agree with you on the photo provided by Hog - he's quite clearly wearing cycling shoes.

The only bit I can't comment on is whether Brailsford is lying. He may indeed be accurately quoting what Shane Sutton said for all I/we know.

Dont worry, its just public relations.

Dave just forgot how he interpreted Froome's abilities a year or two before, you know, the famous Dave Brailsfraud interpretation of Team Sky. Pro Conti or what was his level?

Glad he got cured from the Kenyan Kancer.

Good to see you back old friend.

He says he was with Sutton when Sutton said it. So he's lying.

I was with Shane Sutton [the British head coach] on the beach road in Melbourne during the time trial. Chris rode past, and Shane said: "Bloody hell, there's a bloke in a pair of sand shoes, and he's going fast.

Sounds like they were smokin' somefink off Fitzroy St. Down the beach road is a popular hangout for some post night recovery.

In my mind Braisford is lying. Froome was off first so he must of been there for the start or not. It's just made up to fit the Walsh story that Froome was an unpolished diamond.

If brailsford was accurately quoting Sutton, why do Suttons actual words change quite drastically from one telling of the story to the other?

It is obvious in the quote they claim he is racing in sand shoes. Whatever they are, flip flops?

Also clear in the photo he is wearing cycling shoes. Not flip flops.
I dunno. It seems to me that there is plenty of flip-flopping going on around here. :p

Sand shoes are a sneaker type thing. I think. It's what Google tells me.

Must be a British word.
Wiki tells me that, in the U.S., the term is interchangeable with Chuck Taylors. No one has EVER referred to Chuckie, Ts as "sand shoes" or any other such thing.

Funny thing is, to me, sand shoes are exactly what's shown on the ground in that Commonwealth Games pic, and what the guy sitting down behind Froome is wearing.

But just when I thought the ridiculous semantics of all this had gotten ridiculous, it turns out that Chris is up to his old tricks!

So that's the beginning of an answer WRT Sky's revolutionnary training methods. Riding in the sand, which leads to increased power, higher VO2Max... ;)

Wow! Next we'll get the Rocky IV Dawg cutting wood in East Europe :D

It's all natural guys

Yes. The Dawg riding his bike up a snow filled mountain. The following Jaguar full of Russians can't keep up. Final shot of the Dawg punching the air atop the mountain...

getting stronger...

Provide me the links to the quotes / stories and I'll look at them.

When I was posting earlier I was on my phone so couldn't see things well - at the time all I could see was DB quoting SS. That doesn't make DB a liar.

Come on Martin, pay attention ;)

(I jest, see the humor, please)

The quotes are already on the thread, posted as part of today's discussion.

I'm sure he will read the quotes with an open mind, and then come to the conclusion he has no opinion on anything.
