And our rowers, Sailors, Tennis players, gymnasts, infact everyone that has won a gb medal must be cheating

The fact is we dominated the track in 08 and we are doing the same again.

6 medals in 7 events.

No doping program going on here.

Just add 3 to each of those now, save posting each time GB gets a medal.

Pendleton is odds on to medal (I'm still thinking Silver)
Trott is well placed in the omnium
Hoy should nab top 3 in the Keirin (but that is a bit of a lottery)

It was said in the UK press after Beijing that the track medals represented an investment of £1000,000 per medal.
As well as the lottery funding there's also the Sky HD Pro track team:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_Track_Cycling . I've no idea of there budget. Pendleton @ Hoy are now regularly featured in TV advertising here and I expect that's likely to increase a little in the coming months.

What,s becoming apparent is the squads budget dwarfs every other nations.
I expect more OBE,s, Knighthoods etc to be handed out in the coming months and make no mistake these offer a degree of "protection" from any curious journalists.
I doubt very much any "program" they might be employing is going to be exposed any time soon and have genuine suspicion IOC/ UCI would collude to cover up any evidence.
Not even in at the hight of Russian/ GDR powers has any team dominated to this degree and I'm left wondering if Brailsford has ever heard the expression " you can have to much of a good thing"? .
Intelligent conversation on the topic is all but impossible over here in the UK such is the waive of jingoistic patriotism.
Is there a "program"?...well if there isn't it will be an absolute first in a cycling team performing this well and other nations coaches and staff will be well aware of this.
I sense some pretty strong resentment building up.

Downwind pumping is now allowed, and Ainslie is the best downwind, because he is the strongest, so standard steroids would work here.

Sailing seems to be one of those where just buying a better boat would tip the balance though.

They all sail the exact same boats - the name of the class is the make/class of boat. I don't know why they don't provide all track cyclists with the same bikes. Ainslie is sailing the same boat he used in Athens I believe. Steroids could indeed give an advantage. Ainslie gained almost three stone in order to move up from Laser to Finn. But... from talking to sailing enthusiasts that I know, Ainslie is the best but you can't pinpoint why. He just is. He reads the wind, feels the boat and so on. All intangible skills that he is the best at. Of course it's always possible to put an asterisk next to his name because he is winning...

I was watching a sail event this morning and started pondering: How would I cheat? :D

1. An engine.
2. Superlightweight hull (not sure if there are regulations, I assume there are). I'd fit it with a water compartment I open during the race and fill after the race
3. Bigger sail (not sure if there are regulations, I assume there are). The sail would be fine under inspection and during the race it would unfold a bit :)
4. Engined winched ropes.
5. A suit which I can fill with water and empty when needed (sometimes it's nice to be heavier).
6. Extra smooth hull
7. Shaped hull
8. Active hull (hull that forms under water pressure)

Of course, they are ridiculous or wouldn't work (I'm not a sailor). It was fun though :D

You mean the doping program in 08 worked too! I should hope so they put enough money into it.

I dont know why anyone would consider the British to be doing this clean because if it was another country they would be joining the chorus of suspicion.

I sense some pretty strong resentment building up.

It's more likely that Mo Farah would be busted first as part of a sting against Salazar's hideout in Oregon than anything happening to the cyclists. Track cycling is not taken seriously by the biking superpowers which should mitigate against massive resentment build-up. The big problem could be a mole going to the Telegraph who continue to dislike this Tory government and have no issue with embarrassing it.

Enjoyed your comments.

And why would the british aspire to do it clean in the first place? Sounds like an unneccessary effort, considering they have the access to the goods, the infrastructure, the institutional support, the medics with know-how. The benefits are obvious. The risks in their case were very low.
Ah, and everybody around them juices, so feelings of guilt are not even an issue in the eye of the doper.

I thought Ainslie retired this boat, then went back to it because it was quicker than all the others, presumably that means there is at least something in it. I don't really know enough about sailing to comment further, although looking at the regulations there seems to be multiple manufacturers, which I would imagine allows for some leeway.

It would seem the harder they clap the more the British fans lose their sense of humour too. I suppose there had to be a side effect somewhere :)
Humour would imply there was something funny in the first place ;)

This is crazy. Just take a look at the Goldman dillema and you realize that the odds of clean disciplines is really, really remote. Even if the management of Team UK has the most holy and ethical demeanor ever seen, you can be 99.99999999% sure several of their athletes are cheating. Same goes for the other countries of course

Heck, if you add game theory to the Goldman dilemma and you would get truly shocking numbers. It's simply that nobody involved, be it athletes, pundits, Ioc, Wada or unions like to mention. It would make the fight rather empty and pointless... which I still don't think it is.

Interesting comment from Chris Boardman about the GB track wheels.

They are the same wheels as used in Athens and the mystery bags are simply to keep them clean.

Make of that what you will, but don't get too distracted as I'm sure there's a hatchet-job to be done on Laura Trott if anyone is so minded.

On a side note, I think a million per medal is a bargain. The program seems to be rather effective if that's the case.

There's more to it than money and in this case the formula only works for the one with the most money (makes sense, as the winner takes all).
