Well, well, well, this is interesting. GlaxoSmithKline are involved in medical control at the Olympics ( you may have seen there TV adds here in the uk)...and guess what..Peter Keen, widely held responsible for setting BC cycling on the road to were they are now and Special Adviser to UK Sports now works for GlaxoSmithKline. All pure coincidence of course...move along now..;)

Bauge qualified in just under 10 seconds, which is about 0.2s slower than normal. Kenny set a PB by just over 0.1s.

If Bauge has even maintained his normal form, the sprint would have been very close.
but track speed?

Surprised there's not more talk (yet) about Bauge's turning of the tables at the press conference.

I'm of two minds about it:

1 - It's really, really bad form what he did at the press conference. It's just the pits of bad sportsmanship. Should not have been allowed. Insulting.:(

2 -But someone, not Bauge as the post-race press conference, should be asking questions. I find Kenny's answers unconvincing, to say the least--though I don't follow track and can't argue the merits, but just looking at it on face value. There's also the business with the wheels, more generally.

I just read this as well. I also read (which was news to me) that Bauge had his World Champion Title stripped for missing out of competition tests.

His line of questioning sounded like - Man, I'm juiced to the gills and you worked me - what are you on?

Also, team GB has the chance to win 8 of 10 Gold Medals is that unprecedented in cycling Olympics or otherwise?

Yes, and I see this explanation by Kenny now, which makes more sense:

"“We’ve got a really good team behind us that are watching all the videos all the time,” said Kenny. “It’s literally in the last 10-20 minutes before we race, they’ll come up to me with all the information I need to know, having spent a few hours watching loads of videos. And telling me what to do, basically."

http://velonews.competitor.com/2012...campaign=Feed:+competitor/velonews+(VeloNews)

This is important. There were a lot of smart team folks watching Bauge like a hawk on the video replays and looking for openings, etc. In tennis, Nadal and his coaches in tennis are masters at this. It seems Bauge is not quite up to his top form, and he was outfoxed. That's enough of an explanation for me. They just rolled him.

Also I see this on Bauge: "the Frenchman was stripped of his 2011 title for one missed out-of-competition test and two infringements of the computerized whereabouts system within an 18-month span; the UCI handed world title to Kenny retroactively. "

http://velonews.competitor.com/2012/08/news/bauge-to-kenny-how-did-you-prepare_233435

So three whereabouts violations of sorts.

So I don't feel sorry for him now. But there are still questions for the U.K. team generally....

its only poor form, because of the logic incongruity of it. They are all doing it, I engage in in (me as Bauge), but since I am the most naturally talented (yeah define that Bauge) I deserve to win doing the same degree of dope improvement of my competitors.

So in a philosophical perspective, Bauge fails to be cogent and offer clarity why his position has validity.

Bauge (I can dope and win, you mr kenny, are not entitled to win on those same terms).

Parrot23, there are no questions. You and I have worked it out with own eyes. But they are still selling the Olympics as a great feat of human achievement. Lets just leave it. We has no influence on this macro phenomena that is out of control.

We will wait for a Festina moment down the olympiads. But dont hold your breath. Sports like weightlifting usually fulfill the important role as the read headed stepchild scapegoat.

Yes, I see that's how WildSpokeJoe is reading it too.** It's a particular form of bitterness to get whacked by somebody Bauge suspects is doing what he is doing. Poetic justice in a way.

OKay, and I see Simo's point below. Yes, I don't see the extreme build on Kenny, etc.

If Kenny is on dope then it is nothing like what Bauge us on.Kenny does not have the extreme muscularity of a traditional sprinter on roids.Neither does he have the roid rage.

Sounds like sour grapes to me, if Bauge actually said that to the press? He must think that Kenny is doing something which is not available to him (even if, would that give Bauge the right to question?).

Word on the Internet is that Australia is changing its national colors to green and silver.

I may be falling into the trap again, but could the fact that they are on home soil be the reason why they are preforming so well?

Historically, the host country does better than they normally would.

And the fact that GBTT has been riding well for several years makes their outstanding haul plausible?!??!!?

This. Our track team have form, and essentially we are continuing the dominance we showed in Beijing, and in the intervening World Cup and Champs meets. As for the times in the 'test' event which was actually a World Cup meet earlier this year records tumbled. The velodrome is considered the fastest in the world and included airlocks to get in and out. Someone liked to more technical aspects of the track itself as well. And yes, home advantage does play a part too.

This performance does not come from out of nowhere, so either GB has been doping for years, since 2004 when Wiggins and Hoy won gold, or they are this good

Cyclists doping for years, all through the EPO and blood doping era? Nah, couldn't happen.

Err track cycling. World Cup meets and the annual World Championships

What percentage of events did they win in those meets, 08/09 - 11/12? Would you call that dominance?

The dominance I was specifically referring to was the 8 golds (to my memoy) we won in Beijing
