On and on Davis again, hopefully now he'll get more of the limelight in Australia. His achievements have always been overshadowed by the likes of McEwen, Cooke, McGee, O'Grady especially since he's never been to the TDF (Thanks Boonen...). He's been a good sprinter and its a great result.

The big downside to me is that the wc jersey will be on a sprinter - ie someone who is in the peloton on all flat stages and autobus on mountain stages. It was great having it on Cuddles for a year so we had the rainbow jersey in the moutnains contesting gts.

And the rainbow curse means im not sure well se Thor doing too much in PR.

if only the finish was 150 meters closer to that last corner... terpstra FTW:)

hehehe, I think the Dutch were excellent given the team they had.
Poels, Terpstra, Moerenhout, Boom...
Just wonder if Boom will ever become a 250km+ classics rider.

I'm serious. Never watch cycling again. If you hated this race then you hate cycling.
That's how I feel.

It was a little annoying that Liggett and Sherwin didn't realize that Gilbert had been caught
Sorry for you guys on that side of the pond. I watched the race in Flemish, and though I don't speak a word of it, I could tell Gilbert had been caught, and these guys called the sprint right.

I'll take Flemish over P&P any day.

Am I the only one who's head is still buzzing with all the action in the final 100km?
I try to put together everything in 1 place but it is impossible

Rollercoaster.
God, I wanted Phil to solo for the win.

This was about as good as a race can get idd.
Hushovd did his job to perfection. 100 meters in the wind is all it takes.

Agree on both counts. Just to add: actually getting to those 100 metres. Say what you will about hushovd, but he was there in the end, unlike cavendish, farrar, greipel.

****... Poor Gilbert, but he had to go then I guess. Will have to rewatch it as I only saw the last 2 laps.

Italy and Spain the big loses today I think, how did Spain let that split happen?

Well done Thor.

Australia tops the medal tally back-to-back...

Not always. Remember two years ago when he won the Maillot Vert, he was on some solo breaks to pick up points, and really wore that jersey proudly. I think he'll do the same here.

Cuddles killed the Curse!

Hopefully :)

I thought about that but look at Quebec and Montreal.

You think a similar field would venture out to Australia for a one day race, and take acclimatisation as serious? If there was no rainbow jersey at the end of today, a lot of people would have given a lot less of "their all". A lot of folk gave it their biggest shot here today, as -heck- they found themselves near the front, able to at least attempt a difference. And wouldn't you try to find a little bit special to convert even a slim chance, for yourself or for your best national hope?

Not in a million years would some of them even contemplate the same attitude if it was for any other Ozzie-bound goal, Nor would team mates be willing to bury themselves quite the same way. Several in the field would peddle happily along, and leave it to a few, more obvious apps for that.

The Canadian races were great, but it was thanks to a very few at the helm that it became thoroughly entertaining. Here we had 50k of near all-out crazy.

Almost old-school.

I think it was good by Spain to let the split happen as it let Freire rest as Greipel and EBH raced in a break. It came back together in the end so they were right, just that Friere didnt have it

Evans was a terrific WC holder this past year, esp. in spring races. Looked like today he was there as much as he could. Didn't miss the key moves.

Thor will prolly be there in de Omloop and will still be there come Paris-Tours 2011.
Classics and GT's. You'll see the rainbow a lot next year.

reporter on norwegian national TV just spoke with Hushovd

- thought it was lost underway
- thought Freire would be too strong
- Said he first believed he could take this with 10meter to go :D
- Could ride with confidence in the group with Boasson in the front

Atle Kvålsvoll (personal trainer) just on:
- Perfect with Edvald in the front, Thor safe in the pack
- Impressed how Thor usually follows up talk with results (named himself as a contender early on)

The tv coverage made it look like the cadel group was about to give up chasing gilbert and race amongst themselves for 2 and 3rd instead they were getting gobbled from behind..I was watching flemish so I couldn't hear any commentary.
It also made it look like gilbert knew and the cadel group didn't.

Gilbert knew he had to go in the 1st climb & empty the tank all the way to the finish line to sort of force the pace & get rid of the sprintes....didn't work but lots of balls to try something like that
