4,2km@~8% over the two laps, gonna be interesting how much the 3 breakthrough guys of 2010 (Velits, Brajkovic, Porte) can take from Cancellara and Martin on these climbs.

To avoid overcrowding the course, yes. They're riding three laps, and at a certain point everyone is chasing everyone.

Makes sense.

(I forgot it was a tiny little Aussie course - not the big TT courses I'm used to seeing in European races :D )

1. The Canc
2. Martin
3. Porte

Hard to disagree with that.

All things being equal, no one has a chance of beating the first two.

I think 3rd will be a bit of a lottery.

Porte is a good chance but a bit of an unknown, this is twice the length of anything he has done this season, of course the longest (23km) he won and most of us assume he's better over a world championship length. His size may also be in his favour over the uphill sections.

The others fighting for 3rd? G. E. Larsson, Tuft, Millar, Zabriskie, Moerenhout, Brajkovic, Rogers, Sanchez.

More specifically, I think it's between Porte, Larsson and Sanchez.

I would probably rank them in the following order, in three groups:

Cancellara
Martin

Larsson
Porte
Sanchez

Moerenhout
Millar
Zabriskie
Rogers
Tuft
Brajkovic

As much as I like him, I don't think Porte will place.

Hard to go pass Cancellara but if he falters (although I'm not sure why if he does it means they're all doping???) but the others I think in with a chance are Martin, Larsson, Rogers and they'res a lot of roughies like Sanchez, Velits and Zabriskie who could steal it if they find their stride tomorrow. Will give a mention to Tuft. Would be awesome for Pegasus next season if he gets it. :D

So does no one believe a more gc style rider will win the womens event showed the hill to be very hard and the course rarely flat, 4km at 8% will surely hurt a bigger guy
If Velits is in his Vuelta form im backing him, i know about the wind change etc but this course favours him far more

I still go with specialists like this.

1.Fabian Cancellara
2.Tony Martin
3.Peter Velits
4.David Zabriskie
5.Gustav Larsson

Porte and Millar could do something but I reckon they have their eye on the road race.

F Cancellara
G Larsson (+0:30)
T Martin (+1:30)

My prediction? It won't even be close between the podium places. Cancellara to conserve his power second lap. Velits was overhyped, Martin to a degree also.
