to be known as team Tharcor in 2016

Every year they register as a different random weird name, before announcing the new sponsor and team's actual name around early January.

They'll have some other name.

Yeah I even googled Tharoor to see what type of business is that and couldn't find anything.

Innsbruck (Austria) to host 2018 World Championships.

According to DirectVelo, the Innsbruck course will be one for the climbers and will contain an eight-kilometre climb around 20km outside of Innsbruck. It reports that the there will be somewhere between 4,000 and 4,500 metres of altitude gain across the elite men's course. The time trials could also feature some steep ascents.

me like.

It's possible that the decision has already been made and the Austrians did seem confident that they will be awarded the race, but the official announcement should be made early next year as far as I know.

Finally seems to be very nice and selective worlds after Firenze because this year was too easy and probably next year will be even worse

Exciting news about the Worlds to Innsbruck. What 8 km climb could they be referring to? Mösern? Or the first part of the climb to Kühtai to Sellrain/Elmau before they descend towards Innsbruck?

''Probably''. As certain as taxes.

Hopefully fans boycott the broadcasts. Hopefully it gets ruined somehow. I won't even stand a good race.

In other news, the Volta ao Algarve will finish atop Malhão. No sprint stage on the last day. Rest of the course should have the stage to Monchique and time trial to Sagres.

The 'probably' is because if the winds are strong it'll be carnage

Ah, ok, thanks. How realistic are crosswinds there at that time of the year, though?

I think it's very probable to have strong winds. I did the Tour of Sharjah 2 years ago, which is in the same part of the world, and echelons were forming from the very first kilometers.

In Doha? Watch the Tour of Qatar, all stages are in and around Doha. I'd say 2/3 chances of not much wind and thus a boring sprint, and 1/3 chances of Gent-Wevelgem 2015 type winds.

There aren't any climbs anywhere near the place (they're building artificial ones for the TT) so all the gaps you see in ToQ stages are because of wind

But the Tour of Qatar is in February, hence I asked. Anyway, thank you both for the answers.

The WCs should be less windy and less humid than the ToQ - but 10°C hotter.

Given how much the riders suffered in Abu Dhabi just now, this could make quite a selection even without wind. With riders needing 20 bottles each over 175km, imagine doing an extra 100km, even if it's a couple of degrees cooler. I guess this especially penalises smaller countries with fewer and worse water carriers. Juraj is going to have a tough day.

Bottles are taken at the pit boxes on each lap during the WC. Riders almost never go to the teamcars for drinks

Sometimes Oli's says what needs to be said, but this is just a lack of class:

“Saxo left after I asked them to pay real money for the sponsorship, not some kind of ‘Riis deal’," Tinkov told Cyclingnews. "They simply had no money to pay, so we didn’t do a deal with them. Riis’ approach was always to give them a special price and then ask for more money. That is not my style. So this was MY decision (to end the sponsorship) not their decision."

I think that his ego gets the better of him sometimes...I guess that happens when you are super rich, just ask his twin Don Trump. I guess money can't buy class.

Actually he's always straight. Sometimes a redneck, yes. But I guess he was the same before. It's like if a guy from Gelsenkirchen suddenly becomes a billionaire. :D

Guess he's right about Riis and Seier to be honest. But it's not what you say, it's how!

The upcoming 2016 Volta ao Algarve will make a return to the top of Alto da Fóia. It will be the first time since Alex Zülle won there in 2002. Wonder if Rui Sousa can repeat his third place from 14 years ago? :p

The Malhão stage will conclude the race. Furthermore there will be a itt and two stages for the sprinters.

The 2016 TdS will feature the Rettenbachferner once again!
The race will feature 3 upgill finishes, Rettenbachferner, Amden and Cari.
Amden:
Arfenbuhl.gif

Cari is 11.9km at 7.7% according to quaeldich.de.
All the stages:
1. Baar - Baar (Prolog)
2. Baar - Baar (Rundkurs)
3. Grosswangen - Rheinfelden
4. Rheinfelden - offen
5. Brig/Glis - Cari
6. Weesen - Amden
7. Arbon - Sölden
8. Davos - Davos (Rundkurs)
9. Davos - Davos (EZ)
So 3 consecutive uphill finished, maybe a little bit too much, but it could work if the final ITT is long enough.

Looks like the organizers are looking to break the record for the closest geographical distance between the stage start and finish on day 6.
