I actually like the climb, but a) don't use it without the Timmelsjoch and b) don't use it as the last moutain stage.

It looks like we'll get another +230km Rettenbachferner stage, you could make a 224km stage with the Timmelsjoch that starts in Davos.
I guess the main reason for using the Rettenbachferner again is the fact that Sölden is an official sponsor of the TdS and the KoM jersey. I guess it's a good thing, they are willing to spend money to get a stage finish, in a few years we could get a Giro stage.
Speaking of Giros stages, apparently Lienz wants a Giro stage in 2017:

Actually this news is already pretty old, and unfortunately I haven't heard anything about this for a while. Unfortunately because I'm always happy about stages in Austria, normally I would dislike a stage in a foreign country in the 100th giro. I'd hope for a stage finish on the Franz Josephs Höhe after the Hochtor (thats more or less like the Finestre - Sestriere combo) and then the start of the next stage in Lienz. Ofc, a stage through the Pustertal could also be great ( ;) ) but I just want to see the Hochtor - Franz Josephs Höhe combo on a very high level of racing.

Yeah. They bought themselves in, like they did it with the Deutschlandtour.

1. Arbon - Dornbirn - Mellau - Schoppernau - Hochtannbergpass - Hahntennjoch - Imst - Sölden - Rettenbachferner (220k)

2. Arbon - Dornbirn - Mellau - Schoppernau - Hochtannbergpass - Flexenpass - Arlbergpass - Imst - Sölden - Rettenbachferner (225k)

3. Arbon - Feldkirch - Bludenz - Arlbergpass - Imst - Sölden - Rettenbachferner (215k)

I knew that his crash injuries were bad but not that he may be in danger of losing his leg. One of my favourite riders and one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet. Lets hope all goes as well as possible for him.
Shame his case has begun anonymous, world cycling (apart Movistar) left him while he's got many values, a very right man

A few of the semi-Classics, the .1 races and some of the northern French .HCs yes, but E3, G-W, Ronde and Roubaix no.

In other news, it looks like Murias Taldea are going to be Euskadi-Murias next season. They are rumoured to pick up Igor Antón to replace Egoitz García as leader, and have also signed Aitor González (not THAT Aitor González - this one is 24 and had a good amateur season, winning the Subida a Altzo and the Volta a Galiza, as well as stages in Navarra and Zamora) and Fundación Euskadi prospect Mikel Iturria (who had an even better amateur season, winning the Vuelta a Navarra and top 5ing GCs of many Spanish amateur stage races).

Anton wants a WT team (though finding one might not be easy): http://www.ciclo21.com/igor-anton-espero-un-equipo-que-me-motive/

Very bad news. Hopefully a new sponsor can be found. And hopefully it doesn't indicate that they will withdraw from sponsoring Rabo Liv. Presumably there is more advantage to a sponsor in the Netherlands to be associated with Marianne Vos than to be associated with espoirs though.

AIOCC reks UCI reforms for 2017, voting ( 77 vs 6)

Plans for 8 riders per GT, 7 for other races.

I agree that race organizers should be able to specify the size of teams in their events.

This is already the case...

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is funding research at the University of Tasmania to improve the testing regime for a common asthma drug suspected of enhancing athletic performance.

Dr Glenn Jacobson from the University of Tasmania's School of Medicine has received a grant from WADA to see if the permitted levels are appropriate.

Dr Jacobson said there was increasing evidence that salbutamol, the most commonly used asthma relief medication, was a performance enhancer.

For a while there the Tour of Poland and the ENECO Tour had 6 riders per team to try and reduce crashes.
In the end they concluded it didn't make any difference so they went back to 8 per team
