On a side note guys,
I was thinking of starting a "random questions thread" where you could ask questions about riders who don't have their own discussion thread (yet) or who don't have a team discussion thread. Anyone else who thinks that this might be a decent idea?
Thats sounds reasonable I guess

Will be my first work when I return from E3 than :)

It will inevitably finish in the Godwin point of cycling: Froome vs. Contador. :D

Yes, but in the end they'll still ride the Tour, for a french team who's still riding the Tour it's not the end of the world.
I like Postobon, but I don't know if the should ride a gt in their first year at PCT level.

Same goes for Aqua Blue Sport.

Agreed. Especially for Manzana who don't seem to have the rider quality to do much

I agree that Manzana should of taken a season to settle before tackling a GT but I don't think the same can be said about Aqua Blue, while I think other PCT teams would of been a better choice I think Aqua Blue can send a team that would make a worthwhile stage hunting/breakaway team, they don't have a GC guy but have riders who have started and completed GT's, have results against good company and have had a decent start to the season for a new set-up.

Re: Re:

I like the Vuelta wildcards.

The Vuelta has more room to experiment than the other GTs. There's only one Spanish PCT team, so they don't have to fill all or most of the slots with teams that might die otherwise. Plus, many of the really obviously wildcard contenders already have a GT invite and so for them the Vuelta would be something of an afterthought.

Caja Rural will always get a slot, Cofidis unfortunately will too. After that, well why not go a bit left field? They can be quite sure that Manzana and Aquablue will treat their race as the central goal of the season and will try to have their best riders there in their best form. Thats more than can be said for most teams at the Vuelta.

That said, it has been a while since a first year PCT team got a GT wildcard, so it's quite remarkable to see two such teams get one to the same GT. I didn't expect either team to get one already, but it really isn't as if there are long lines of better PCT teams they skipped in front of.

The World Ranking is rolling, the WorldTour Ranking is for the season. Sagan leads the former, Greg the latter.

Sory but i didn´t understand it.

Wich ranking counts? How do you get in the end of the year wich cyclist really won if the points are diferent in each one?

De Panne = Durbridge's race to lose.

Anyone agree? Especially with his newfound taste for the cobbles, strong results and the 14.2k TT.

Should expect nothing less than a podium - Gilbert will be the favorite - Stage 1 is crucial.
Gilbert will have to drop him on the Muur. Otherwise, I doubt he will win it.

Kristoff is also a problem but he doesn't seem to be at 100%. Still, he can take some bonus seconds on stage 2 and 3.

What Netserk said in different words:

World Ranking is the last 12 months. So today it's the Points/Results from 28/03/2016 to 27/03/2017

WorldTour Ranking is the 2017 year. Points/Results from 01/01/2017 to today

That's true, but it's still the Vuelta. Tier 1 PCT teams should take precedence.

I'm not sure that there is much of a "tier 1" in the current PCT division. It's not like there are a few Cervelos or BMCs lurking there. I can't see that there is any team so much stronger than everyone else that they should get 2 GTs almost by right.

There is a range of quality levels, but not really currently discrete tiers or vast gaps. You could argue that, say, Direct Energie or Willier or some very well established team is a better bet than a new team, but such teams already have a GT invite and for them the Vuelta is very much a secondary consideration. It's quite reasonable for the Vuelta to prioritise teams who will prioritise the Vuelta. Why shouldn't they want their race to be the centrepiece of the season for three of their four invites? Why should they prefer to have Direct Energie's second string rather than teams that will bring a bit of novelty factor attention to their race and which will focus much of their year on doing well there?

As a general rule, I think that the Vuelta should do this sort of thing regularly. They don't have a responsibility to take local teams other than Caja Rural, and they create more of a stir by bringing in unusual teams than they do by being a minor concern for teams already going to the Giro or a Tour.

There are not many strongish PCT teams without a GT ride. I could see a case for an Androni or Roompot on strength grounds, but we don't know if either team pursued a Vuelta invite seriously and taking an Italian squad after all the Giro wildcard yelling really would involve making their race appear like a not very welcome consolation prize.

And, which I forgot to mention:

World Ranking is for all races.

WorldTour Ranking is only for WT races. (So Sagan's win in K-B-K doesn't count)
