No. Soccer players shouldn't be given awards considering when somebody touches them they roll around like somebody has chopped their leg off.

Don't agree a motor sports person should get an award either. Seriously, too many uncontrollable variables for my liking.

I understand this post will be very unpopular.

Not even an Emmy award?

Brainless? I am not denying he isn't a great player but I don't like the way Soccer players and sometimes even AFL players behave through acting. I think it is a low act and when I see that I question if they deserve accolades. Are you going to have a go at The Hitch for ultimately justifying my opinion? I bet you aren't because The Hitch has what is known as 'street value'. Plenty more of examples of it. People can like Soccer/Football but I don't. Don't be such a melodramtic idiot like you often are. Again, I do not have to like the sport. Get that through your thick skull.

PFFT, you don't have to like soccer but if you talk trash I'm gonna call you on it. Get that through your thick skull.

Regarding AFL. I assume you don't like Marc Murphy then :D
such a chump he is.

Trash talk??? are you really going to deny that Soccer/Football players don't often act? That's why I said he doesn't deserve the award. It is pure logic which you clearly are uncapable of understanding. I never doubt how good a player Messi is. Same with Murphy but again I don't believe someone who acts during a sports match deserves an award like that.

Blame the refs and the system not the players. ANyway my point is, if your gonna make claims about a sport I like, I'm obviously gonna defend it. That's teh point of a forum, too easy
Believe me from experience at just victorian level, if you don't go down your coach will go nuts at you. Can't imagine what it might be like for them.

Be careful, Timmy might crack the ****s at you.

:D :D

I've missed these heated arguments with you acf ;)

I'd hazard a guess that Meyer isn't putting his hand up for the omnium though, and will just try and sneak into the TP squad by doing the minimum required on the track.

I think he would do the Madison and the TP.

With the arguing between Timmy and ACF, Timmy he did not actually ridicule soccer he just pointed out that they dive. All valid points from you as well ( soccer is the most popular sport in the world, even in Australia ) and so Messi might deserve it. However I think for this year Vettel deserves it more. ( Messi last year could not even get Argentina to the Grand Final at the WC ) yet still got it, this year there has been no monumental events like that.

Also do you not like League or Union/ or both???

Thanks for sticking up for me Greenedge but it is not worth going on about it. I've moved on and Timmy has most likely moved on.

Messi could not get Argentin to beat Venezuela - the football worlds equivalent of Amore Vita.

He got terrorised by them. It would be like 2 Amore Vita riders taking turns to attack Contador up a mountain.

Yet with all these millions atop of millions of people playing football, Messi is far and away the best of the best. Say what you want, but for a sport where kids are pulling tricks out oo thier a$ses by the age of 2 and growing up with only a soccer ball to become the greatest at said sport is something incredible...

Millions of people may play football but the pool from which Messi is the greatest isnt as large.

To be a pro its not about whether you play football. Its about what academy you go to. Football is a technique sport so those who go to an academy automatically become way better than those who don't even if they are less talented.

Its no coincidence that out of all the millions and millions that about 4 of the top 10 and 20 of the best 50 players in the world come out of 1 academy.

So the pool is far far smaller. Messi is the best out of all the kids that went to academies but I think of those millions who play, if you gave them all a chance some of the might have been as good.

How do you think he ended up at that academy? Randomly picked up off the street?

If he were a kid from Barcelona, I could sort of understand where you're coming from.

Don Vincenzo put in a good word for him.

He started playing at a very young age (another neccesary stipulation) for a local club then 2 years later, while still very young, started playing for the academy of a top flight Argentinian team.

I have to say, I've been watching football for almost thirty years, and nostalgia aside, Messi is the best I've ever seen. Better than Platini, better than Maradona, Zidane, Ronaldinho, all of them. That's why he got to go to an academy, because he's a unique talent.

Messi's stupidly talented. But it doesn't mean he automatically deserves a reward, because other people are stupidly talented at other fields too.

Besides, he plays for Barcelona and Pep Guardiola is his manager, which is automatically a black mark against his name, a bit like riding for Riis or Bruyneel or driving for Ron Dennis.

He originally got into an academy because his Dad took him there. When he was like 7, and no one knew whether he was special or not.

Think how many messis at that age don't get put into academies by their parents.

Contador was excluded last year because Laureus doesnt want to ahem associate themselves with doping (though Nadal won of course).

But Messi his team have admitted doping him with hgh, but i suppose since hes not a cyclist, its ok.
