Gianetti says team is shopping for Classics riders

He feels that backing Menchov, who was third in this year’s Tour, and has won two Vueltas and one Giro, and 2008 Tour winner Sastre are near-guarantees to fight for major victories.

“It's obvious,” he said, when asked why he picked the duo. “Between the two of them, they have accumulated ten podiums in the three largest races in the last ten years. But more importantly, they are two riders with a good image. They quickly understood the project and did not hesitate to sign.”

The team has signed 13 riders, amongst them the aforementioned team leaders plus the Spaniards Rafael Valls and Arkaitz Duran, and has a verbal agreement with an additional seven or so.

That leaves eight slots free, and he’d like to pick up another big name !

The team is almost certainly to be based in Cantabria, Spain, Stefano Zanini, Daniele Nardello, Josean Matxin and Sabino Angoitia will be sporting directors.

Yes I feel sad for the Footen riders that are getting kicked out. Geox look to have a good team in the making though, plenty of climbers and getting kireyenka is a big plus for them.

And the 2006, 2008 and 2010 races. It's a bit unfair to him to focus on the race where he won by default, when he was so dominant at this year's race (winning on both Sra da Graça and Torre) and now holds the record (joint with Chagas) for most wins in the Volta.

Sorry Libertine my dear friend, but I left that one for you, I knew you would wave in on that sorry once more ... and this man is still looking very fresh all the time.

No your right, hands on for this great rider, if you can win that nasty Volta 4 times in a row, you are one of the great, and I´m very excited like you Libertine that Blanco can play a big role in the grand tours for Geox now.

Continental team for GEOX

Geox will also have a Continental team

All riders from Footon-Servetto-Fuji, that will not swap to Geox are to be accommodated in a Continental affiliate.
With this in mind, Joxean Matxin, sports manager of Footon, is attempting to mount a continental team in addition to the Geox ProTour structure: "We must have the important riders (in Geox, NLDR), and we can not give those riders with whom we work at the moment no future and progress might find it off.
Somehow it bothers me and that's why I work up to a continental team for these riders for the future. Something similar what we did with GrupoNicolasMateos.com.
Arkaitz Duran et Rafa Valls will continue with Geox. Matxin also announced that the Austrian Matthias Brändle will step up in the ProTour.

Wow, that's very good. Good to see a director who actually cares about the riders.

Red Bull teams up with GEOX and vise-versa

Geox in cycling, there is now confirmation from Mr. Geox, Mario Moretti Polegato.
Geox is ready to get into Formula One and has ongoing talks with
different teams, for most with Red Bull.
"We are negotiating the opportunities - he says - and I can confirm that we are close to a deal, "he said Mario Moretti Polegato asked about a possible sponsorship of Red Bull: "We are looking for tools to test our technology in extreme sports like high-tech cycling and Formula One. "

Red Bull in pro cycling ! ... it was just a matter of time

Yeah, probably one of the final sports for them to get into.

So, Geox-Red Bull then? I swear I remember reading at the start of all this that Footon and Servetto were staying as sponsors. Maybe down to secondary..

Update from today > Fuji is to stay

Mauro Gianetti is in the Vuelta, met with Bici and presented the plans again and added !:

I have behind me a group that is very reliable with Matxin, my closest associate at the head, and it works very well. " In this sense also confirms that "Cantabria Infinita" also will continue as a sponsor and that Fuji continues with bicycles.
"AMPO has not decided anything yet to continue, but is considering it," he adds.

We will race the Giro, Tour and Vuelta and will get a ProTour license !

USA dreamgirl Mara Abbott to ride for GEOX ladies 2011

Mara will spearhead the Ladies department of GEOX, which is filled with riders of the former under Lithuanian licensed team of Safi-Pasta Zara. The 24-year-old American champion on the road was riding last season for Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY12 and became the next American champion women and won the last edition of the Ladies Giro d'Italia and finished second in the Tour de l'Aude Cycliste Feminin. Abbott will next week not take part in the World Champioships due to illness.

So Velonation got it all wrong :p: http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/5765/Transfer-News-Mara-Abbott-signs-for-Safi-Pasta-Zara.aspx
Safi-Pasta-Zara doesn't exist anymore in 2011 !

Add-On: as already mentioned Claudio Corti will become the teammanager of 'GEOX Ladies Team' and takes Caffita from his old Saeco team with him on board as co-sponsor.

Safi-Pasta Zara were my favourite women's team, and I hope that the GEOX jerseys will stay nice and classy like the Safi ones were!

But my favourites signing Mara Abbott can only be a good thing because if the cycling world needs one thing, it's more climbing specialists.

The team will get a big boost at the managerial level, as it seems that legendary director, Claudio Corti, will manage the team and bring former Lampre and Saeco sponsor, Caffita, with him.
Corti has been out of the cycling for a season following his folding Barloworld team at the end of 2009.

After Mara now is coming to GEOX as no surprise Spains Manel Lacambra from the US national team. Lacambra is a former road racer and race mechanic. Under his team management, Cervélo Test Team grabbed 87 podium places in 2009 UCI events, including five World Cup victories. While with the Cervélo TestTeam he worked closely with Kristin Armstrong.

Question: Are Pro Women capable of racing the same distances and courses as the pro men do?

Manel Lacambra: Women are capable for everything!!! But we need to be realistic; and in this moment the level is different. Now women are not ready for to race 20 days with long distances. Many riders still are in the university or have another job. Slow, slow we need to change some things and improve women cycling. We need to find more publicity, money, races, etc. It is nice to see, like this year during the Giro Italia one stage will finish on Passo Stelvio. In my opinion women races need to be a little more hard and longer than they are now.

Thanks Manel, Good legs and success to you and the GEOX Women this year.
