If Chris Horner joins as is rumored now I'd say Menchov has to be top three fav for next years tour.

I'll have my Bend contact drive down the long road that Chris is parked on with his fifth wheeler...see if this is possible. It would be the good idea for redneck and the best possibility for him to shoot for a GT, if they have the room.

Methinks, GEOX is planning to gather a team of climbers and let them all roam in the TdF 2011 (to increase their chances for victory over AC / AS) - what Radioshack tried and failed to achieve this year.

I agree this is the only way to shake up the race a 1 team 2 headed attack.

i'm still shaking my head in surprise at how much money geox poured into the project ?

reportedly (sports-express) menchov asked for 2.5 million. sastre must cost at least 1.5 mil and that’s apart from the rest ? geox must still expand a pretty penny to hire some solid climbers for the two leaders.

Well 1.5mill for Sastre is too much no? Not even Andy who is younger and with recent podiums and showing great level has that income... I think that Sastre is below that amount maybe 900.000 or max 1mill...

I don't know, Geox is a pretty big international company, ~900 million euros revenue per year, i'm actually more curious about some of the other teams.
BMC for example has just an annual revenue of 20 millions but yet can afford the likes of Cadel Evans.

I think their budget won´t top teams like Katusha or HTC Columbia, but should be near that region.
Ardila is one good climber or used to be one. Geox wants Garate, too.

Rabobank is losing climbingpower very fast now.

of course i'm speculating about sastre but my estimate was based on some earlier reported numbers for tdf winners and his contract worth after he won the 2008 tour.

reportedly, the tour winner's scale att was around 2 and 2.5 mil. riis could not afford (or did not want to pay) the raise sastre asked for and carlos jumped the ship. after a relatively lackluster 2 seasons with cervello, i'd assume his contract was either steady or reduced. hence, the 1.5 mil did not seem out of reality. but menchov's 2.5 m is certainly higher than i expected. not saying he's not deserving.

I'm losing count of how many teams I can/will be rooting for next year. Either Menchov or Sastre would have been enough to elevate Footon/GEOX straight onto the list of the teams I enjoy seeing. Both of them together....

Ask me again when they reveal the new kit. Geox is still footwear, isn't it?

A big loss for Rabo I think, Gesink could have done with one more year at the Russian's side. But I am happier to see Menchov land here, with the team that is being assembled, than in Katucha. Good luck to him.

Actually... if Radioshack is around I think they'd still be Horner's best shot at a GT leader role.

He was probably going to be the leader (or co-leader with Brajkovic) at the Vuelta this year if the Shack had been invited. With automatic invites from the 3 GT's due to their pro-tour finish and looking at the RS team... it seems very likely he'll be the leader at least at one GT.

Geox is footwear, but not only footwear. However, you may check the colours in their web site :D

Some may recognise Pelucchi's name as he's been mentioned a few times recently; he is the fiancée of Marina Romoli, whose career was ended in a horrific crash that's left her, at least for now, without the use of her legs. He was first to the scene and the one to call the emergency services and stayed by her side throughout the period of operations. He only returned to the bike at her insistence; his team had been very understanding and helpful throughout the ordeal and eased him back into competition. He's been an absolute star throughout this last few months, so it's fantastic that he's getting the chance to step up, and I wish him all the best.

Geox CEO statement: Doping is a risk as all others ...

GEOX ceo

The company Geox, which is preparing to make its entry into cycling in 2011, is not afraid of doping.
Its CEO, Mario Moretti Polegato, explains: "There are always risks, even in the mere business. Just to know them is enough to tackle them so don't expect what happened to Deutsche Telekom, Saunier Duval or Gerolsteiner.
The shoe magnate is confident: "We will be very careful and do some random checks on the riders. We believe that the biological passport 'can' work if ...

And then achieving results at any price does not interest us." He even hopes that his team can be a role model: "We want to send an ethical message to young people:" Work pays of in the end if you play by the rules ".
All the trust we have in Mauro Gianetti as the team director to fulfill our goals. Gianetti was winner of the 1995 Liège–Bastogne–Liège and Amstel Gold Race for team Polti Picture.

Good tactics to be clean AND succesfull !

Thats what HTC and other big teams still do, too.
Teaminternal testing - good, clean and effective, but also very expensive if they do it really professional

La Stampa. Cheula, alla Vuelta la firma con la Geox

Giampaolo Cheula will renew with Gianetti during the Vuelta but under the new name GEOX.
During the upcoming vuelta more details of what is going to happen with the other riders from Footon ... who is to swap and who is not ...

Chuela: "The team that is emerging is certainly exciting", states the cyclist from Antigoriano. Actually there are many factors Guaranteed, from friendship with Gianetti to the close relationship with Claudio Corti (who will run the sports management at GEOX) and the qualities of the rest of the personal.
So the agreement has been reached, even on financial terms, at the Trittico Lombardia last week: Chuela: "All true and Gianetti is a person of trust - Cheula replie. We meet during the Vuelta to make it official".

Claudio Corti (Barloworld) to GEOX

Safi Pasta Zara team to become Team Geox with Claudio Corti at the helm
Geox, will also include a women's team. this year's Safi-Pasta Zara team will likely merge into a new Geox women's team.

Marina Romoli

The team will get a big boost at the managerial level, as it seems that legendary director, Claudio Corti, will manage the team and bring former Lampre and Saeco sponsor, Caffita, with him.
Corti has been out of the cycling for a season following his folding Barloworld team at the end of 2009.
