I would like Tom to smash it remorselessly & put like 3 to 4 minutes on Quintanita, so we can have a thrilling Giro going forward :)

Nibs will do well, Pinot can surprise big time, as he has shown his TT skills recently, so definitely is going to be an exciting stage to watch :)

Is Kiryienka ok after the crash? He could also do really well.

Did he actually crash?
Yes, I think that it was nothing seroius, but he had a mechanical or something like that because of the crash, so he had to wait and couldn't work for Thomas, at least according to the Italian commentators.

Hope big Tom and Pinot to blow Quintana. Does anyone know riders starting time already?

Edit: im pretty sure I saw Vasil in the ground amongst Landa, G and Rosa

I'll go out on a limb and predict far less time gaps. I'm thinking ~45 seconds between the winner and tenth, with the major players in there. Between TD's focus on increased climbing and NQ's usually surgical prep, I think it might be closer than most expect.

Big Tom to blow the field apart here and be the new favourite come Tuesday evening. Between the 2 TT's Tom will take 3 mins on Quintana which he will have to claw back in the mountains. He has got 30 seconds already so will have about a further 2 1/2 mins to preserve. It's doable if he just keeps riding to limit losses which I think is his gameplan.

Can't see Quintana losing less than 1.30 to Major Tom. It's still quite early days in the Giro and this TT is right up Tom's alley. For the final TT on the other hand, recovery might become a great leveller.

I think the talk of 3 minutes is overdoing it though. If Quintana is in this stellar shape it might be more in the direction of 1m30.

Around 2-2:30 I reckon. It's not as flat as the Vuelta one, he is in better shape, but so is his main rival and now his rival is the best TTer in the world, not Froome (who is still extremely good obviously), and the course is made for said rival.

Let's hope no rain. Rain has a habit of effectively neutralising these types of time trials like last year.

Everybody talks about Dumoulin & Pinot versus Quintana. Y'all forget that Pozzovivo rides a magic tt every now and then!

I'll never forget that Vuelta TT where Pozzo came him in 3rd behind Cancellara and T.Martin. I even remember Sean Kelly commentating on the stage saying "I'd say stranger things have happened, but I'm not sure they have."

wild guess

dimoulin 0
pinot, kruiswijk + 1'20''
nairo, nibali, mollema +1'40''
zakarin +2'

yet i'll be really surprised if the gaps between contenders, aside dimoulin, will be significant.

Isn't Kruiswijk still in poor form after hitting the tarmac?

The "specialists" will get destroyed. I wouldn't be surprised to see 7 out of 10 GC contenders in top 10.

The strength and form Dumoulin showed on Blockhaus suggests he is going to smash this course to pieces. I expect he will put up to 2 minutes into Quintana. If so this Giro will be very interesting despite Movistar's strength in numbers.

But assuming he takes Pink, the problem for Tom is his team will be too weak to defend him for the next two weeks and he needs everything they can give for the remaining mountains. They will be keen to let a break go if that possibility arises.

I'm not sure. Not only this is raced after a rest day, but there are no climbs with significant gradient at any point of the route.

On the other hand, there are not many good TT-ists in this field so we may indeed see many of the GC guys finishing high.

So if TD knows after Blockhaus that he is really strong and confident, should he softpedal just a bit in this tt? It would keep all GC contenders closer together, provoke other teams towards more agressive racing and so giving more pressure towards Movistar, taking early pressure off from TD.

Little doubt in my mind that Major Tom takes this and becomes the main contender to Quintana's relentless march towards victory. I still think Nairo will take the whole shebang - way too much climbing in week 3. However, in the meantime, we'll have a spell of Tom in pink. I think he'll lose big on at least one mountain stage however, but I rate him above Pinot for a podium finish...
