Giro 2017, stage 16: Rovetta – Bormio 222 km

Short summary of posts:
Quitana (who didn't attack): such a loser and no sportsmanship what so ever. What else can you expect from Movistar.
Nibali (who attacked): Such a class act. Nibali is so strong and I wanted him to win.

I think there's no reason to blame Movistar this time. They did not push and it was Dumoulin mistake.
They get blamed because they have a history of being the team which wins at any cost (e.g. Giro 2014) and attacks after crashes (Thomas crash...). But not this time.

Still, I do not like Quintana. Even with Nibali's Vuelta car incident, I'd give it to Nibali anytime. He shows heart, he shows emotions, he tries daring attacks...Quintana is probably best climber in the world be he does not have the heart of Nibali or Contador.

I hope Dumo will get it back mentally and win this. If not, then Nibali. Just not Quintana (unless he shows heart in one of the remaining stages).

To be fair, by and large it's not the same people holding those views at once, with a few exceptions.

Even when Thomas crashed (if you are talking about motorbike incident) then Movistar had been pushing pace for a long time.

Oh please, not this can of worms again.

It's actually kind of similar though, isn't it? Both incidents were self-inflicted.
I said the same thing then as I said today. But this has been discussed to death, surely. This is just fans being frustrated now.

How is a mechanical like a natural break ? Unless Dumoulin is the Tominator with faulty internals.

Thomas crash: Yes, that one is also debatable and I could say ok if they just plain admit it afterwards. Race was on. But I hate their "I did not really know" excuses.

I wanted Nibali to win because of Scarponi and because we hadn't had an Italian winner yet. And because I severely dislike Landa, as a person. What I've found about him isn't pretty.
He comes across as a really nice guy.

I had huge expectations for this stage. Sad it needed Major Tom *** to ignite things.
Giro is wide open.

Yeah, I'd like to know what this is about too. Only thing I've ever seen against Landa is that he seems kind of dumb.

Well, this "accident" can actually show what kind of material Dumo is.
If he crumbles, he's Porte-like mentally.
If he recovers and keeps fighting, he has a potential to become a champion even if he does not win it this time.

Secret insider knowledge.

@movingtarget ,and whether Schleck's mechanical was self-inflicted was nothing that Contador could spot at once either. The point is that they should always keep riding. I'm not asking them to attack specifically because someone has a problem, but I don't want them to wait either. Just keep doing what you're doing. Which in Contador's case was going full gas.

They most likely wouldn't have known straight away WHO was on the ground, more than likely it was a case of have someone look back and see that basically all the "usual faces" were still present and THEN a few minutes later get the radio from the car that Yates was held up and Thomas & Landa had been "on the deck" for a few minutes.

Curious too. One rumour I've heard is that Landa has at one point said Valverde is the best Spanish rider of his generation, is that it?

A gossip-y way of looking at things. Trying seeing viewing a sports historian instead. Be objective.

Not a huge fan of Sagan's personality. I'm 100% sure we would get along. BUT I still root for him because I like his style, aggression and initiative. He is an artisan on the bike.

Turning the riders into celebrities or pop icons is the worst thing you can do when you watch cycling.

Off topic, but Sagan's personality actually made me root for Majka at AToC a little bit. Seeing how he, sometimes with his brother's assistance, keeps trying to throw Majka into the Hansgrohe shower display at appearances, makes me feel for poor old Majka constantly getting hazed and looking shell-shocked afterwards. And I have never been a Majka fan before.

What really annoys me about this stage is that Quintana still gained 2 minutes on Dumoulin without attacking early. I really wished they would get punished for their conservative racing. Then again, let's be happy Quintana didn't attack early because otherwise Dumoulin would probably have lost 5 minutes.

You are always whinging - The last three stages have featured attacking racing from kilometre zero - Unsure what you expect.

I expected nothing less from Movistar, as Ramira wrote they have a history of unsportsmanlike behavior

And Bahrain have no morals anyway, obvs
Oh c'mon. Show me the unwritten rule that you must not attack if the leader has to take a sh*t. I think they were already too generous to not do an all out attack as soon as Dumoulin stopped.
Don't get me wrong. I wish they had waited, I really want him to win, but saying other teams are unsportsmanlike because of this is nonsense.
That's not what I implied. It's just that you know even before something happens, that Movistar will NEVER wait or do someone a favor. That's just their way of racing.

did Contador wait for andy at the chaingate?

edit: awfull grammar

Or better, did Contador waited EVER?

I'd like to know too ?

Brailsford said in an interview recently that Mikkel Landa was a very very intelligent person ...love architecture , etc
