They can make Dumoulin lose here by going full *** on the Sella Chianzutan and then create all sorts of breakaways on the flat afterwards. It's incredibly unlikely tho

This is actually why I believe having Pinot and Zakarin in striking distance to the Podium is very helpfull for Dumoulin considering the Profiles. They'd have to somehow manage to distance him without distancing Pinot or Zakarin, or even Pozzovivo. Well, no way on earth. Of course if there's a crash, or illnes or whatever it's a different story but you can't plan for something like that.

Nibali to corroborate his claim that he doesn't care about the podium, will ride to make Big Mouth Tom lose.

Finally someone with a strong sense of predicting race scenarios.
My thoughts exactly which I have repeated several times today in the other threads.

Quite a lot will depend on whether the Sunweb team are able to be of actual use on the last two, in theory easier, stages. There really isn't any reason why they shouldn't be both present and of potential use until late on tomorrow. If they all disappear early again on this kind of parcours with this much at stake, Dumoulin should have them sold for glue.

Lo Squalo and Nairo to hopefully learn Big Mouth Tom a bit about GTs

It will be Little Big Horn, Crazy Horse Nibs and Sitting Bull Quintana against major general Custer Tom.
Ha ha, I like:) A bit of trivia re LBH, Custer actually had a brother called Tom who perished with him and Custer's middle name was Armstrong!

If Diego Rosa has anything left in the tank after today, I'd say he's a much likely stage winner - looked awfully good today!(and friday will be Landas day in the peloton before trying again saturday)

It's a bit of a problem for Sky that their three strong climbers have been up the road so much. Rosa, Deignan and Landa have all looked very strong but must all be extremely tired.

Sky has been racing really well the last couple of days, sending there whole squad up the road to help Mikel Landani, great stuff from them. Interesting if Landa tries to break away tomorrow, win from the favourites or just tank the day. I'd probably stay in the bunch and if it came together try to go for it, but dno.

The stage starts in my hometown, so I'm super hyped for the start. I want to take a picture with Ivan Basso and talk to him, same with Landa and Kiryienka.
In a Rei shirt of course?

I also think Quintana and Nibali will rest up tomorrow. Maybe try to gain a bit on the final climb, but save their big race-splitting effort for Grappa.
looks like that pair have been resting up since the start.must be well rested now.or is Nairo saving his enegry for the TDFLol

True, but on the other hand, Dumo can't completely ignore Pinot or Zaka if they attack which they'll likely have to do if they want a podium place and that obviously matters more to them than to Nibs and Nairo. Could result in an interesting game of chicken.

But Custer was defeated ?
Yes. But I think the analogy is cleverer than it seems. He was beaten because of his arrogance and dismissal of his rivals and the the size of their support:) For the record, I like Dumoulin and will be watching as a neutral(ish) cycling fan. Oh, and, go go go Nibbles;)

Actually, thinking more about it, the analogy is even better. Custer lost a third of his support early, sent his 2nd string on a futile attack and then found himself completely isolated and ultimately destroyed. I know, I'm indulging myself now:)

Yes but it seems to be rather unthinkable for them to try to to a long range attack to isolate Dumoulin on the flat. Also: for Quintana and Nibali the podium might be not of interest, but that doesn't speak for their DS, so they might order domestiques to chase Zakarin oder Pinot if they'd try. On the penultimate climbs it's not that important if they attack, because they'd have to gain massive massive amounts of time before he'd even have to react and more importantly, if he couldn't follow he'd just pace himself anyway and not react to anything at all.

Quite interesting and smart actually: characterizations of Crazy Horse and conservative Sitting Quintana. Custer's middle name was Armstrong though ;) . He can't be denied, spending 6 hours a day on his bike and two on the toilet.

I hope that Tibopino is White Bull, the one who is said to have killed Custer. One of his descendants is a good friend of mine.

Cheers!
