This is what happens when you backload all the mountains in the last week. The battle becomes an attrition race. And that's why we are seeing this. La Vuelta hates it and Le Tour is doing something similar.

Personally I like attrition. But this forum hates attrition. It despises attrition.

Maybe Tom was half right ...by watching him Pinot could take race from Nairo & Nibs but also from Dumoulin

Quintana might be in the pink jersey, but the last two stages do not suit him. Tomorrow looks like an opportunity for a Nibali ambush and Tom D is really the virtual leader (taking into account the final time trial), since Stoneface stills needs to gain more time. Tom D had a bad day today, but if he can hang in on the final two climbs, he will be in the driving seat (it's a big ask though). With Pinot and Zakharin in attacking mode, since both could gain significantly from a temporary alliance tomorrow, it looks like being an interesting finish. Maybe not explosive, but since fatigue has set in and the end is in sight, gaps will naturally open.

Landa was not even able to hang with main favourites on Sella Chianzutan, he was there only because nobody cares about him

Just like he was there on Oropa because nobody cared about him, or on Mortirolo and Finistere in 2015. Comparisons to Pantani are maybe out of place, but Landa is a very talented climber with great recovery. You could turn your argument on its head and say that Landa did not want to hang with the main favourites on Sella, beacause it was either the stage or nothing and measuring out his efforts was a much more sensible strategy, so he didn't care about the GC contest.

It's difficult to say where Landa would have finished if the crash had not occurred, but it's fairly obvious that he would be high up on GC. Maybe, I hype Landa. I've picked him for a stage win 4 times. The results: 1 win, 2 second places and an unlucky crash. More like mild embellishment of his abilities at the most.

I think you were looking at the wrong page. Maybe team results of today only? In overall team classification Movistar is well ahead:

At least Contador has actually previously won the various races his devotees keep imagining him tearing up. Landa's career palmares to date consist of a small number of GT stages. I like the guy, but please God turn the hype dial down about four notches until he actually does something to earn it.

Landa would have won it if he didn't crash.

Unlike Quintana, he isn't afraid to take risks and attack from far out.

I would love to see Astana win, but I am pretty sure they are more than 1 hour behind Movistar, their chances went out of the giro, when Kangeret crashed :/

In terms of the direction of the cause-effect relationship, RattaKuningas is definitely closest to the mark, because Landa's long range attacks come after becoming out of contention for the GC.

If Quintana tried to attack from afar like Landa has, you can be certain Nibali, Dumouli, Pinot and others would immediately give chase. In fact, in the times Quintana has tried to attack that wasn't in the last 5km of a stage, and there have been a few, isn't it safe to assume he was doing so in the hope to drop the others on GC, and ideally finish minutes ahead of them at the finish?

As to comparing Landa to Pantani, one could say these last couple days have been Pantani-like, but the comparison ends there to me.

Thanks, I had a great time. There were many cycling fans for all around the world, many Austrian, Colombians, Aussies, Amador fans for Costa Rica and even a decent amount of Asian fans, that was a bit of a surprise.
I talked a bit with Grossschartner's family who came to the start to support him.

Yeah, the eyebrow game is really strong on the picture with Landa.
When I was 15 I actually looked like Harry Potter, with the glasses and everything.
I had a great time, and the fact that Team Sky just walked into someone's backyard and put there rolls up right there was hillarious, the riders casually walked by the house and looked inside their living room through the windows.
