Being the arsehole in the move by taking your only winning ticket and hope the others will serve the stage win for him is pure ciclismo. Love to see it.And very nice that Pietrobon didn't win. That would have sucked hard.

Didn't expect people to be so annoyed with Pietrobon - he's a PCT rider without a career win against a multiple time track world champion and Valgren. Of course he needs to wheelsuck if he's going to even the slightest chance of winning.
It was like 2.5km and the gap was 30s. It was the right move and there was nothing wrong with it. The weakest guy does the least, and tries to win. It's fair.
It's fair to not want him to win, it's unfair to criticise him, though.Nope it was father out than 2,5 km I am pretty sure. But if it was only the last 2.5k fair enough, I'm less annoyed by it, but to me it felt like just leeching of the others work to get a chance you contribute litte or nothing to in the end.
I understand the rational behind doing it - but I think it's allowed to be happy this tactic doesn't win.
Agree. He played the card he had, that's all.Being the arsehole in the move by taking your only winning ticket and hope the others will serve the stage win for him is pure ciclismo. Love to see it.
This, Pietrobon raced smart, not like those guys who are willing to hold hands with vdP in the classics...Pietrobon done what he needed to do to give himself a chance to win against some top riders. Great performance by Thomas though.
Massive fail for the sprint teams particularly Lidl Trek.
Pietrobon a popular target but the thinking man knows it's Pieter Serry and Amanuel Gheberigzabier murdering everyone's legs on that first climb for no reason, send all hate their way.I show up here after each stage to find the daily target of the board's hate.
Really? He's seemed like a better rider than that but maybe I've just been watching him in coupe de France races...Benjamin Thomas takes his first WT win at 28, every dog has it's day
It's actually only his second top-4 at this level, the other being a second place from another early break at Suisse. Good rider, but a bit of a French race merchant and also someone who got most of his results in a single season (2022).Really? He's seemed like a better rider than that but maybe I've just been watching him in coupe de France races...

Nah, it's Paleni he needs to send a gift basket to. That guy chased for no reason just to get 4th. Like WTH, there is not a different outcome for Paleni in that situation except maaaybe third. Was he doing it just to spite Pietrobon? At least Pietrobon tried to win.Thomas should thank Valgren for pulling back Pietrobon and then him out for the sprint.
I don't think it was over the top. He legit seemed on the limit from a long way out.I get why Pietrobon did it. But he was way too blatant about it and it bit him in the ass in the end.
Not sure it was smart to do a "Sky Train Tribute" on the long climb, and seemed to mess around during the chase. I suppose they thought catching the break was a done deal. Not the best tactics from Alpecin, says Pogi
Lol, if anything the peloton was paced more than the break.
