Other teams are so predictable and boring. Once you've shown dominance in the first week, others will follow suit and are happy with crumbs
A potential podium isn't crumbs, though. You can't realistically beat Pogacar in this race unless he retires – after that it's just normal to protect your position and try and get top five/podium. It's not like they're defending 7th

With that attitude I wonder why they even step on the bike. Pogacar could also do a 20km solo at Strade, and still win. Why take the risk? Because it's fun, it's cycling, and people remember it.

I can't tell if this is a serious comment – do you think Tiberi and O'Connor should be gunning for the win? Tiberi is like 22 and this is his first GC ride. It's completely fair to not go for the win! Different riders have different expectations

I understand defending minor positions towards the end but trying to peg Jan Hirt and a 7.30 down 82 year old Pozzovivo on a slightly hilly stage 12 to defend 5th is pure Al-Shabaab cycling.

Bahrain aren't really chasing though they are really just keeping the gap in check. If you give Hirt a three-four minute advantage into a third week with few hard mountain stages it's obviously a bit dangerous, and it's no given that he fades and you make that back.
