Yes I think so too, they were on the ropes a bit at the start but I'm not sure Arensman has the climbing form to attempt something that ambitious just yet.

I agree. It's a saturday, a nice day, there will be 1000s of people on the final climb and watching at home who want to see a show. This is why the Giro badly wanted him racing here (and I would guess are paying big money to have him).

UAE is very strong in hilly terrain. Bkerg and Laengen are powerhorses
The breakaway are not riding flat out ...they are playing the game with UAE
Attacking each other a lot in the formative stages, Alaphilippe has been err, active to say the least

I really don't see the point of UAE doing this controlling, unless they really want to win the stage. But if they don't they could let the break have 5 or more minutes and let Ineos and Bora chase.

They only had like 1-1.5 minutes atop Capistrello and there hasn't exactly been much climbing since. Add in bad cooperation and this is what happens.
