They were tired of seeing how worthless the chase group was and didn't want to be a part of it anymore.

Yawn...

Of course, I wasn't expecting much from todays stage.

Unless CAS interceeds, it looks like the boring (GT) days of Indurain and Armstrong are on us again.

In the interests of good racing I'm hoping he is found guilty.

What can other teams do to put contador under pressure and possibly beat him ...other than putting banned substance in his food/drink lolzzz

They could try attacking him one by one on the Crostis and hope the repeated accelerations eventually wear him out, but no-one would want to be the first to attack and Nibbles, Scarponi et al would almost certainly run out of gas before Bertie even broke a sweat.

Barring a disaster, Contador has this Giro in the bag. He had it in the bag the moment he took the start.

Collude and have Scarponi, Nibali, Kreuziger & co + a couple from each of their teams take off on the first climb of stage 15?

Kruijswijk on par with Rodriguez so far this Giro (except for those 1.5 minutes he lost by going on the attack two days ago). Didn't expect that.

At this point- Rujano is going to leap frog to second place by sunday- and don't forget that after that we have 2 MTF left....

so Podium looks like Conta & Rujano

Let's not rule out Schleck yet, he was pretty much Contador's equal last year, and although Contador's showing here is very impressive, with a guy like Gadret finishing 3rd, you have to take in account the strength of the competition.

It wasn't deliberate. He crashed/mechanical on the strade bianche

Ah... thanks. I was trying to find a post about what happened or news somewhere. My ignorance bites me again. :(

Major kudos to him for today's ride and for making things interesting now despite that big time loss early on. It would have been easy to back off a bit and think, well, I've got no chance now.

Contador gave Rujano the stage win as a reward for helping him gain time on his rivals, and because he didn't need the glory or the additional bonus seconds.

what was the point of Euskatel riding on the front for so long...apart from working for Contador. Are the Spaniards forming an alliance in revenge for Valverde?????

Giro was over since Etna.

it might make for good racing but it wouldnt be good for racing

It would be much worse for the sport to have a major star test positive and get away with it, thereby sending entirely the wrong message to every rider. But this is a conversation better had in the clinic.

And probably some help from Androni in the next week. Those couple of meters Rujano worked could hardly have gained Alberto any time, not enough to give away a stage for.

Loved how Rujano looked back 3 times in the last 50 meters, not really believing that Conti would give him the stage, even with his hands raised he looked worried

Yup and Scarponi and Nibali letting AC have 17 seconds on a flat stage just drove the nail even deeper. I am still puzzled at how you let one of the best climbers in the world take 17 seconds on a flat stage. Seems to me they have always been racing for 2nd.

He is, head and shoulders, above all others.

I'm hoping for a mechanical early on one of the big climbs to come, just to see what he really has under his hood. Otherwise, the rest of the Giro is a forgone conclusion.
