There's no way in hell matthews will survive this. No way unless peloton doesn't do anything on the previous climbs.
Matthews has been climbing extraordinary this Giro though. Just look how well he was doing on stage 9.

Yea but if astana goes full *** on that climb (3km at 11%) he'll never survive.

And i'm sure astana will, this is their last chance to get the maglia rosa. After the ITT it'll be complicated.

Then again astana has dropped the ball already a couple of times.

The so called full *** has not done much for Aru so far apart from getting one second on Contador in a sprint but I suppose they hurt an ill Uran's chances earlier on.

Well that's also cause the break always won, so no boni's. Astana *** up many times on that.

As an aside, do the Giro use the camera motos for the GPS time gaps between groups on the road?

The Gazzetta ticker just showed a speed of 123kmph - which I assume if a moto not the bunch!  :D

1st hour, 52 kph. 60 kms done now, still gruppo compatto.

Makes sense, since the break always survives they just let no one ride away this time.

5 man break Gretsch (AG2R), Appollonio (Androni), Barbin (Bariani), Elissonde (FdJ), Van der Lijke (Lotto NL)

Continuing the trend of the win from the break, I'll go with Elissonde or Barbin.

Astana could bring the break back, it can go either way for Aru, he could get he maglia rosa, or lose more time with Contador getting bonus seconds at the finish.

Would have been interesting to see which teams were doing the chasing early on. I think those contesting the points jersey (Viviani / Nizzolo / Boem) would have liked to be in the break today because there are big points at the intermediate sprints and no chance of them contesting the finish. Perhaps that is one reason why there was stalemate.

Apparently, Appollonio's favourite sport legend is Lance Armstrong. Risky choice, I'd say. And I'm really hoping that Porte will use the fuel he has been talking about to attack properly on Crosara.

No surprise considering he spent 2 of his formative years on a team which modeled itself on Lance and contained many of his closest friends, supporters and former staff.

But it's not risky to say Pantani?

And you're right :D
