Forecast says: rainy day, moderate wind from NE. Beware the mosquitoes.

The stage could be really hard in that conditions.
Not easy to be in the breakaway with headwind and flat terrain.
It is not a breakaway for climbers as today.

Hesjedal has very bad luck, he is doing an impresive Giro, but he has recovered maybe half a minute in GC in all the breaks. With weakers domestiques in the teams he will be again in GC fight.

I'm wondering what Lobato can do, can he contest this uphill sprint. If it was him today on Contador's wheel he is pretty good form

People need to stop saying gilbert in this giro. The stage was made for him today and he didn't do anything.

Beside this gilbert can't do anything on a 10%hill, that's long gone especially seeing what comes before that in the stage.

We're talking roughly two minutes on a 10% gradient. Ulissi is perfect for it, but I think some (if not several) of the GC contenders will do better than someone like Lobato.

I think it's just within his reach, though I know there are no real precedents on a similar finish. Ulissi is indeed my other option if it's raced a bit harder.

Who's gonna keep the break in check? Cause Lampre surely can't. Ulissi better be in the break.

Good question. Maybe Orica if they fancy Matthews' or Gerrans' chances and they don't have someone in the break. Movistar for Lobato? BMC for Gilbert? Will probably need at least a couple of them to combine their efforts however.

What about Slagter? Personally I predict he will be dropped before he reaches that final hill.
If there were no climbs before he might do it, but so far this year he's been anonymous regarding his Muur skills.

mmm, would love to see him make it. but the whole team form is not so explosive. endurance but low power

A break will take it again.
Jumbo Steven will be part of it.
No chance for the break tomorrow I think. Too many teams believe they can win, and the parcours is not selective enough to shed many domestiques in the first 3/4 of the race.

I imagine Lampre wouldn't be able to reel in a break in most continental circuit races, so you can count them out as one.

The question is more, will they be able to deliver Ulissi in a good position before the climb really starts to kick in?

Visconti/Ulissi/Betancur. If there's going to be a headwind, it's another 4-5 guy break from Italian conti teams (but hey, they sometimes succeed). I can't see it here though
Visconti is 7th on the GC. The big boys probably won't mind, but I doubt the likes of BMC, Cannondale, Katusha & Nippo - Vini Fantini are going to just let him slip out with the break. Maybe even Astana would give him a chase just to pretend like they care about Landa & Cataldo's GC placings.

Ardenne type stage which should be interesting, 190km not too long which keeps it nice. I am thinking CUnego might make this his last hooray a good chance for him. of obvious choice Gilbert my favourite of those.

there are unlikely to be many guys left anyway, shouldn't be that much of a problem

Astana should hit the Crosara climb hard to see if they can get over the top with a number of riders while isolating Porte and Contador. Kreuziger should make it and someone from Sky. However, if not then they can make Contador chase. Send Landa on the attack on the categorized climb then Aru can sit on wheels if Contador chases or Landa gains more time. Either way Astana would be happy.

Hope Davide Villella perform well in this stage. He used to be very good at this uphill sprint, but lack of results these 2 years.

Surely this is Matthews V Lobato V Ullisi

There will be enough time for a small regroup after the Crosara.

Lobato has been targeting this stage all tour!

Where did I say anything about those guys going in a break? The break will go. Due to a flat start and headwind, it will be a weak break with no chance. The puncheurs will come to the front at the end. I guess Lobato could be there instead of Visconti, it just depends on how they are feeling and how Movistar play this.
