We are still trying to figure out where the race starts. Beppe Conti said Sicily, with a transfer to Sardinia mid-race. It's really hard to believe, i still think Sardinia is the most likely start.
There are rumours of two finishes in Puglia... one in Alberobello (flat) and the other in Peschici (hilly). Terminillo should be the first Mtf, probably on stage 9. A stage finish is rumoured in Bagno di Romagna from Perugia, it might be potentially very cool. The next stage will start in Forlì. Also very interesting that Cainero recently stated that piancavallo is not fixed yet, the alternative might even be a flat stage to Maniago or surroundings. All in all it looks like everything is still to be defined

At least Fedaia + Pordoi seems to be a done deal.

Anything more about that stage? If I remember correctly, Pantani won such a stage back in the time, it will something similar I assume.

ITT on Mortirolo would be a classic. The kind of epic proposition that would steer riders away from the TdF. The winner gains legend status.

Eshnar, the crostis? Any chance? :)
The Giro organisers in Friuli still want to use the Crostis one day, next year they want to have Piancavallo and for 2018 probably the Zocolan, but they want to use the Priola side that was never used before, about 8.9km at 13%.
Insane :D .

Would be nice if Südtirol pays the check for a major mountain time trial once again. Something like Kronplatz, Würzjoch from Brixen, Drei Zinnen / Auronzohütte from Toblach, Rittner Horn or Schneiderwiesen Alm (Guess these two are too narrow for a Giro convoy though!?) etc.

Drei Zinnen would be nice to be seen back as a mtf as well. Just like a Jaufenpass-Penserjoch combo with a descend finish at Bozen. A Reiterjoch comeback.

Gavia, Punta Veleno, Fedaia of course, Blockhaus, Fauniera, there are so many more beautiful cols to dream about for the anniversary ...

Well from Bormio they theoretically could use Tornale and the Gavia pass before the Stilfserjoch can't they!?

We got some more news. A finish at the Presolana is rumoured as stage 15. Allegedly they will come from west (so no Vivione, but Selvino and S.Pellegrino - not the famous one...). According to the same article they will start stage 16 after the rest day from Bergamo. My understanding is that the stage will be Bergamo-Stelvio. On stage 14 I would guess there will be the wine ITT in Franciacorta.
My main concern is to understand whether the Stelvio stage will rule out the Aprica one (which was regarded as almost a done deal), or if they'll both stand. We will see.

Give me that stage (maybe even one more climb before Tonale) but instead of the Stelvio MTF have the stage finish in Sulden/Solda, that would be a stage for the ages, but it's probably just one of my dreams.
I'm not a huge fan of a MTF on the Stelvio from Bormio, a finish in Livigno with the harder side of the Stelvio before the Passo di Foscagno just like in 2005 on the other had would be glorious.

Or you could double climb Stelvio and finish in Solda.

......Bormio -> Stelvio - Prato allo Stelvio -> Mustair -> Stelvio using Umbrail Pass-> Solda.

In this manner you have guaranteed action in the penultimate climb as Stelvio from Umbrail is much harder than from Bormio.

Wow that looks somehow hard although I think that up from 10% the pain is pretty much the same either it's 10 or 15% :D

I dream of Lombarda, Bonnete, Fauniera and Agnello as the alpine stage. And then then full plate of Gavia, Stelvio, Mortirolo as well.

Mortirolo-Gavia-Stelvio? Well I actually want the mortirolo together with an aprica finish but that definitely also would be a great stage. Even greater if it ends in sulden.
