Gap isn't very big. I imagine they need at least 3/4 minutes for fireworks for them to be useful on Colle delle Finestre.

If the gap doesn't go out sometime there's no way the break makes it up finestre.

Yes, could have needed a tougher climb or an even longer stage to establish a more useful break. Was always the problem with this design, IMO.

Plus Yates can fully use hit big guys in the flat section right now, because they won't be of use later anyways.

Well, nothing unexpected in the fact GC candidates' teams have put some men in the break. We'll see when the leaders will try to bridge to them.
There are the descents as well as ascents.

Also, I will never understand the motivation behind riders like Stybar joining mountain breakaways. Yesterday, both Van Poppel and Van Emden confessed it wasn't the plan for them to join and they kept wondering what they were doing up there
