I think Stybar is excited by the prospect of mud on the Finestre. The Cima Coppi is up for grabs there if nothing else.LaFlorecita said:I should make it home before Finestre, don't go too fast, folks
Also, I will never understand the motivation behind riders like Stybar joining mountain breakaways. Yesterday, both Van Poppel and Van Emden confessed it wasn't the plan for them to join and they kept wondering what they were doing up there![]()

Lys is fairly hard, there's 6k at 7%. It's just been incredibly frantic with a very high pace. At least MS will be very tired once they reach finestre, though.Valv.Piti said:Yes, could have needed a tougher climb or an even longer stage to establish a more useful break. Was always the problem with this design, IMO.Red Rick said:Gap isn't very big. I imagine they need at least 3/4 minutes for fireworks for them to be useful on Colle delle Finestre.
They could have used Moncenisio but that climb would have been directly before the finestre and not at the beginning of the stage. That said, they could have made a super hard 200+ km stage by using both Lys and MoncenisioValv.Piti said:Yeah, I obviously dont know anything about that, I just remembered the Mont Cenis in 2005Red Rick said:Location location location. Might as well use Chaves up as well.JimPanzen said:spalco said:If the gap doesn't go out sometime there's no way the break makes it up finestre.
Plus Yates can fully use hit big guys in the flat section right now, because they won't be of use later anyways.

Moncenisio and Lys isn't possible.Gigs_98 said:They could have used Moncenisio but that climb would have been directly before the finestre and not at the beginning of the stage. Eros Poli says hi.
Make sure Viviani makes the time limit?spalco said:LaFlorecita said:I should make it home before Finestre, don't go too fast, folks

Stybar is probably just bored. What else has he got to do in the rest of the race?
Gigs_98 said:MS wants to catch this group before the finestre starts because as soon as they have concussed on the finestre they have to burn their mountain domestiques 90 k from the finish
So MS follows the Telekom approach on Croix de Fer?deValtos said:Gigs_98 said:MS wants to catch this group before the finestre starts because as soon as they have concussed on the finestre they have to burn their mountain domestiques 90 k from the finish
Kreuziger already seems to be rotating on the front along with Bewley and Jul Jensen.

An intermediate sprint in the Giro.
Do you mean it's not possible because it's too hard? Because logistically it is possible (I'm talking about the Moncenisio climb used in 2009)Red Rick said:Moncenisio and Lys isn't possible.
Best alternative is probably Sestriere/Finestre/Sestriere/Jafferau, but that might be super long.
Altenatively, I'd want to replace Sestriere by Colle Basset.
