Giro d'Italia 2018 stage 19: Venaria Reale – Jafferau 184km

Expect Aru to try something. They will try and isolate Yates before the last climb. Froome has nothing to lose and he won't be interested in holding fourth spot if he has a chance at the podium. The worst thing for Michelton would be to use up their team too early in the stage. I think Haig was saved yesterday and did not appear to work as much as usual. Hopefully for Yates both Kreuziger and Chaves are feeling pretty good. Looks very tough for riders like Dennis.

I will be away for the whole day. When I get home, Eurosport Player and chill. Those images of Finestre, looks like it could be grueling. Powerful riders are better generally on gravel because of traction, but then again it's steep as hell. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm on night shifts so I wont even have the option of avoiding the results, I'll be unable to watch until around 1am at work.

I hope tomorrow's stage is absolute carnage, somebody must try something on Finestre.

I know most people don't care about the Mountains classfication but for some reason I always find it fascinating.

One conclusion to come out of Stage 18 is that Ciccone (52 points) and not Yates (91 points) must now be the man to beat in the Mountains classification (not that Yates will care). Stage 18 should have been one for Yates to pick up points but not Ciccone. Neither one picking up points is a victory for Ciccone, particularly as he had an easy ride, conserving energy.

The real dangers may well be Froome (36 points) and Aru (zero points but bound to attack). If Sky go hard on Finestre, then the break could be brought back by the top and Froome could pick up massive points.

That's nothing. I had a workshop during the stage to Risoul, Giro 2016 when Nibs and the snow bank turned the race upside down. Got the info on the mobile from this wonderful forum and the CN ticker. Thing is I had a Dutch guy who was busier than me during the workshop but I made sure to keep him up to date. Needless to say he didn't have a particularly fun afternoon.
Man, if Nibali was still in the game for this one my attendance would be even more useless than it is anyway :D

Sneak out!
That is an attitude I cannot endorse

Don't go in the first place.

You're right Red Rick.
Sestriere, all you need to do is convince the people of the seminar that watching cycling can help you learn about particle physics.

You might have to get a bit creative...

"There are some particles moving through a potential interacting with each other. As you can see they are color-charged, marked by their visual appearance. The interaction between them is dependend on color, most notably the pink particle has a very strong bond to the three white-ish particles, much stronger than that resulting of the gradient of the potential. We can now investigate whether one of the white particles can be accelerated enough to ultimately break the bond to the pink one. If we observed this we would whitness a truly very remarkable moment."

Could this work?

I hope it delivers for you all
Yeah, i can't watch it either.
...same here  ...the stage is set for an epic stage.

I 'win' this one. I have to work until 9:30. I have a subscription to the Eurosport Player, so you would say I at least could watch it 'as live' in the evening BUT my girlfriend comes home friday evening after she has been abroad for a week, and will be leaving again saturday afternoon, so you can imagine she needs and deserves my full attention. Basically I can watch the friday stage during the final of the saturday stage...
Full attention? You will have plenty of opportunities, so many commercials, but you will have to be smart and quick.....

Sounds like I'm in the same boat as a bunch here. I have a 2 hour web conference that will probably start when they are on Finestre. Fortunately others will be doing most of the talking and maybe I can have have it up on my second monitor. It would probably be better to wait, avoid all spoilers and watch it later on the big screen but I don't know if I have that much willpower. :p

I'm afraid I'll have the CN live texts and watch my cellphone every chance that I get. The wise move would be to igone it, come home, find highlights or whatever I can find...except that the search may give away the result...FFS, I had marked this week as a vacation and couldn't take it...sob... :(

Dumo and Froome to falter a bit, Yates holding fast, Pozzo with the form of his life to deliver fireworks.
All the while I will be working...
The same. I will record the whole stage, not enter The Forum till 7pm! - when I start to watch it, read posts simultaneously, skip commercials!, swallow some beers= >great evening
So simple.. I think

If you have the willpower, Tiz will have the entire stage and also the last ~30k up a few hours after the race and it's always spoiler free.

tiz has sucket for me, freezing or bailing out in the finale, I did steephill Israeli channel, and yesterday got an empty soccer stadium game with 10 km to go in the race. Until an American dominates cycling, US viewers are screwed. I did Basque, Hebrew...FloBikes isn't our LaFlo channel, because I would ask, beg for free B. Last year, I had l'Equipe 21. Not so lucky now. I won't pay. Cycling is a free sport.

Shame for all those who will miss the stage as I've certainly been there before.

Not tomorrow though, working from home tomorrow to hopefully watch the chaos that is the Giro.

i took off work for this stage the day after the route was announced :)

anyway it's a shame we wont see this stage from the start, the first climb is going to be crazy.

That is some high quality forward planning.

It will be Friday night here in New Zealand so I can stay up and watch it until 4am without feeling guilty about affecting my work productivity tomorrow.

I wonder if Yates is beginning to regret gifting four seconds to Chaves earlier on.
No Yates is regretting the conservative follow the wheels approach he just adopted. He should return to the bit between the teeth aggressive method that has served him so well and crush his rivals. It is much easier to take the pain if you are the protagonist.
