Surely some action has to happen right?
But we will probably have a 40 rider bunch arrive to the finish, seriously getting Giro 2012 vibes from this, not a good sign for the race.

Okay how hard is the penultimate, uncategorized Tortoreto climb?
ANYDAJt.png

Just from via San Giuseppe the second time.

Astana like to place guys in the break. Ideally Felline for this stage and then they could have a straight forward plan with some guys riding hard from the feed zone to the first hill, two more over that (but it's really hard), Jakob to try on the steep part of the second hill Colonella, Nibali, Kelderman and who knows follow and then meet up with Felline and others from the break and maybe even battle for the stage.

Tortoreto just from via San Giuseppe is the final climb though.
This is the uncategorized, penultimate Tortoreto climb:

I could be completely off, but the quick succession of climbs, descents in the final may lead to aggressive riding, particularly if some of the favorites are on a post rest day hangover.

Break possibly, GC wise two or three in that top-10 will lose some time, 30-40". I read TDG's name, I don't know if he plays weak, he certainly isn't looking like himself in '20.

I think we will see it ridden like a classics race, except that at the Giro nobody gives up half way through the race, so time differences will be less than we see in a one day race.

The GC captains feeling good will probably try something on the last climb, if nothing else to rattle the cage and see what shakes out, not least after a rest day - but I would be surprised seeing greater time gaps than 10-20 seconds on the line, between GC guys, especially with 11 K downhill and flat after the top of the climb.

If the way Pogacar raced the Tour has taught us anything, it is that an accumulation of small attacks go a long way, over a 3 week race.

That is no less true at the Giro, where only the unknown quantity Almeida has a very good TT, to take him over the line in the end.

Yeah, I don't think Fuglsang and Kelderman are just going to sit idly by tomorrow, either.

They saw yesterday that they were better than the rest on punchy terrain, so they would be pretty daft if they didn't try to exploit that tomorrow. Especially Fuglsang (Kelderman has his ITT's).

Fuglsang has hinted that he will attack if the headwind isn't too much of an issue. Still doesn't have a Giro stage victory and it's pretty much the same formula as his Liege and Lombardia wins.

Wind is expected to be light tomorrow (sunny day, 18 degrees), from a north/northeast direction, so I don't think weather will be a factor.

Either way, the last 40 K is a loop, so even if there was strong winds, at some point they will be just right ;)

Another reason I think we will see GC action tomorrow is, that the next 3 days are virtual holidays for the GC teams, before the TT and then mountain stage Saturday and Sunday.

Looks like one for the break. De Gendt gets another chance. Possible trap stage for some of the GC riders depending on the tactics.

Posted at the time of the release that it's an unbalanced route with it being too backloaded - The three ITT's could have been condensed into two while remaining the same number of kilometres - Until specific GC teams attack the day, then stages will go to breakaways until the weekend, except for the nailed on sprint stage

I dont think Bora or Sunweb will want to control this. It is too hard to control and hard for Sagan imo. I think break will take this and maybe there will be some GC action behind. Lots of classics riders and non GC punchy climbers should try to join breakaway. I will be upset if there will be break less than 15 people. Some big names in it.

I think we're finding out that some seemingly good stages at first sight just don't work, like Montescuro and Roccaraso.

This will probably be another breakaway stage, although Fuglsang and Kelderman should try something in the final. If they can take 10-20 secs on Nibali and/or Krswk they shouldn't waste the opportunity.

I don't think this will be a weak Giro, but one of those Giri with a boring middle part. After the Etna all the big stages are concentrated in the final nine days.

Kruijswijk out - I wonder if the infection already had an influence on the last stage. He didn't seem very strong there.

Positive tests in five teams... This needs to be shut down... I guess Almeida might get his first Grand Tour

This is such a shitshow. Why on earth didn't they use the same bubble approach as in the Tour. Kruijswijk gone is a travesty. Still hope the race won't be cancelled but honestly...at this point it would be understandable
