Except those pretensions never materialized, the TdS didn't have a climb like Stelvio and he never pulled off a performance like this in a GT.

Aside from the facts, I can see your point, sure.
The point is that as recently as last year he was seen as more than a TT specialist. Recall that he himself tried to become a a GC man, it did not work out well esp. at Bahrain, but having a single great mountain stage in a weak field is believable to me.

Hart has this in the bag now! Maybe Dennis could wait for him in the TT and then carry his ass to the finish, like he did today, I don't think Hart was that strong tbh.

Maybe it's even to TGH's advantage to have Kelderman in pink so that Sunweb have difficult decisions to make.
They showed today what their "difficult decision" will be. They'll follow whoever is a GC threat, and won't wait for anyone.

Hindley will not win by following, he needs to take time on Hart on Saturday. If they ride for Kelderman by the time he drops it might be too late for Hindley to do anything.

Hart was riding that last climb at 80% and constantly was talking to Hindley, I mean what does he expect Hindley to do. Hart is definitely the loser of the day despite being maybe the strongest rider.

Did Hart ever make one attack on the last climb or did he make tempo the whole way? Seems he was on limit and didn't have much more to give.

Kelderman is still the favourite with the bookies at 1.85 payout and Hart is x 3 and Hindley x 4.5.

The decision will be made well before that. I'd expect Sunweb to drill it on the first couple of times up Sestrieres to isolate TGH. I'm not sure Tao has the legs to drop Kelderman on his own, and if he does put that effort in he will be properly setting up Hindley.

He didn't attack, but he was definitely not riding it at a steady tempo, just trying to make it hard for Hindley to get into a rhythm on his wheel. It was only in the final 5km that he kind of got the head down.

Good luck dropping Ganna, Dennis and Castroviejo on those slopes.

I actually think it might be Ineos dropping the hammer down early.

Sunweb strikes me as the kind of team to avoid making a decision at all costs.

Granted, this might be only because they're Dutch.
What the lack of decision making or choosing for Kelderman. Sadly I think the latter is probably very true. I though all the final climb Hindley should try it then I remember Barguil gate.

I think Hindley should have tried to drop Geoghegan Hart. If he drops him then great. If he causes Geoghegan Hart to lose time to Kelderman due to stop-start, then it's great too. I also think he should have gone for himself, but probably he was told not to.

Actually yeah he should've tried.

If he is booted from his contract he can sign a new one for 10x the money.

Hm i don't know about that. I mean i believe those are the odds that are offered, but i think tao is at least 50:50 and i'd Take hindley at 3:1 too if i was interested in betting.

Imo the final tt is a complete crapshoot. Hindley probably has the worst of it, but it's a short and easy tt and might be the best climber of the three.

I certainly wouldn't pick kelderman at those odds.
