Except those pretensions never materialized, the TdS didn't have a climb like Stelvio and he never pulled off a performance like this in a GT.

Aside from the facts, I can see your point, sure.
The point is that as recently as last year he was seen as more than a TT specialist. Recall that he himself tried to become a a GC man, it did not work out well esp. at Bahrain, but having a single great mountain stage in a weak field is believable to me.

Hindley will not win by following, he needs to take time on Hart on Saturday. If they ride for Kelderman by the time he drops it might be too late for Hindley to do anything.
The decision will be made well before that. I'd expect Sunweb to drill it on the first couple of times up Sestrieres to isolate TGH. I'm not sure Tao has the legs to drop Kelderman on his own, and if he does put that effort in he will be properly setting up Hindley.

Good luck dropping Ganna, Dennis and Castroviejo on those slopes.

I actually think it might be Ineos dropping the hammer down early.

What the lack of decision making or choosing for Kelderman. Sadly I think the latter is probably very true. I though all the final climb Hindley should try it then I remember Barguil gate.
I think Hindley should have tried to drop Geoghegan Hart. If he drops him then great. If he causes Geoghegan Hart to lose time to Kelderman due to stop-start, then it's great too. I also think he should have gone for himself, but probably he was told not to.

Kelderman is still the favourite with the bookies at 1.85 payout and Hart is x 3 and Hindley x 4.5.

Hm i don't know about that. I mean i believe those are the odds that are offered, but i think tao is at least 50:50 and i'd Take hindley at 3:1 too if i was interested in betting.

Imo the final tt is a complete crapshoot. Hindley probably has the worst of it, but it's a short and easy tt and might be the best climber of the three.

I certainly wouldn't pick kelderman at those odds.
